Letters of recommendation/reference

I was wondering, how would it look to get a letter of recommendation from someone else's parent?
Like, for example, tutoring someone and getting that person's dad to write a letter?

I wouldn't do it, unless they would give you an amazing recommendation and bring to light something that might not be seen in your application.

one word: awkward.

^ word (10 chars)

I wouldn't include it originally, but if you got deferred or something, that might be a good thing to send in.

why would it be awkward?

Yeah, I don't get the awkward thing either.

I would say go for it...Look it over, and if it's good, send it in.

if the college doesnt specifically state that the rec must come from a teacher or counselor i say go for it

thanks guys
oh and also, can i count this as work experience? even though it's not like an official employment or anything

if you get paid it would go under working, if you don't it's volunteer work.

Don"t colleges generally require letters of recommendation to come from teachers (excluding Dartmouth)?
