The teacher who knows me the best is from freshman year and taught me biology. I am planning to major in biology but my AP biology teacher right now in senior year doesn’t know me write well yet but she does know that I am extremely engaged in class and I am doing well in her class. Should I ask this freshman teacher for this letter of recommendation? Or my AP biology teacher. How do colleges feel about freshman and senior year teacher recs. This is for early decision.
Do not ask your freshman year teacher – that was just too long ago. Hopefully you have matured as a person and as a student since freshman year. You can ask you senior year teacher if you feel she knows you well enough (which is unlikely for an ED application). I would strongly consider picking another science or math teacher.
Note that the teacher recommending you ‘need not be’ for the subject you intend to major. The teacher is someone who knows you best and can write about your general academic/intellectual preparation - its best if this teacher taught you recently. Better go with some other science teacher who know you well (from junior year maybe ?)
I didn’t have anyone that knows me from junior or sophomore year because I took my classes at the local Community College. I went with a teacher that I had freshman year. If you really don’t have anyone else that knows you from a more recent year, then It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world
Why couldn’t you use a teacher from the CC for one of your LORs?
