Letters of Recommendation

Ever had a problem like this before?

You have around 5~6 really really close teachers. But you know that some colelges specifically state, 2 teachers and your counselor, and maybe 1 extra supplemental one from a person outside the school.

So what did you do to decide? (Getting them all, then choosing the good ones might work, but what if they all individually include different points that you want adcoms to see)

usually colleges prefer to have one humanities, preferably english, and one analytical. I chose my english teacher who I had for 2 years, although I received a better grade in another english class, because I thought she knew me well and could write a better recommendation. I also chose my earth science and astronomy teacher, because I plan on going into astro. so really, you absolutely need someone who can evaluate your writing skills, because writing is important no matter what you do. then, I'd recommend that the other be from whatever subject you plan on going into. if there are close calls, the harder teacher will usually be able to write a better recommendation, because they'll have seen that you stand out from the crowd and are able to do difficult work.

I dont know what to do about my counselor recommendation. He is cold, never in his office, and incredibly unhelpful. For example, last summer when I got my schedule I wasn't in Spanish IV which I had signed up for. I visited him and after numerous other visits and the period of a month I was informed there simply wouldnt be a Spanish IV class and there never was one planned. The inept clown kept me going for a month!!! I have had to go to other counselors many times for my questions, etc. and I dont know if I should use them or.....him. Any ideas?
