I dont know why but i get the feeling that michigan lets in a lot of good to very good students but in the end only the good students enroll , the very good ones go to ivy's etc?? Am i correct?
more or less, what is the general level of the enrolling student body? is it really smart people or just ivy rejects?

Um, I don't know where you're getting this information, but there are tons of excellent students here. I've met many people who went to umich instead of the ivies and other top schools. The reasons vary, including but not exclusive to: financial reasons, better concentration programs, overall college experience, etc.
Although I admit there is a wide range of students at the U of M, there are certainly very excellent students in attendance.

I personally know quite a few students admitted to an Ivy and Umich who chose Umich. It's really, really hard to pass up the bargain of in state tuition at Umich to pay $40,000/yr.

"is it really smart people or just ivy rejects?" <-- are "really smart people" and "ivy rejects" considered different types of people? ivy league schools are generally VERY hard to get into, namely the top ones like harvard yale and princeton. you can be an incredibly smart individual and still get rejected from ivy schools.

I don't know where you are getting your data from, but I highly doubt that you are correct. The University of Michigan is considered to be a public "ivy" institution. Therefore, I believe that a significant amount of extremely talented students end up going to the University of Michigan. Trust me.

This is quite possibly the dumbest question ever. If you were accepted to UMich, please don't come here...............Just kidding. There's tons of smart people here.

i was just raising the question not stating any information... what i meant is there is a difference between brilliant and very smart ,mostly in terms of motivation and i wanted to know in which category does the majority of UM student body fit in to??

I think it would be hard for anyone to really answer that, go48. There are some really off-the-chart students at Michigan, and some that are more around the University's average. Just like anywhere.

If only 25% of the student body is brilliant, Michigan would have more brilliant students than any of the Ivies 8^). Don't worry. There will be a few students in your class who will give you a run for your money. You will have to work very hard for your A's.

And if you are real smart, there are all sorts of research projects you can get into ... starting in your freshman year. Check out the UROP program.

The student body is really active (I believe this is one of the main advantages of going to Michigan). You will find many very talented people in all kind of programs and activities.

Good heavens! Not all Ivy students are academically brilliant, either. They look for kids with a variety of talents, just like most good universities.
