Lgbt life in Vancouver and at UBC

Hey everyone. International student here. Got rejected from UofT, which was my dream school, no idea why because my grades are genuinely near perfect :frowning:
I am most likely going to be attending UBC as I’ve been admitted, although I’m still waiting to hear from mcgill (which I’d probably go to over UBC). I think a big part of my wanting to go to toronto was how ‘at home’ i felt as an lgbt person both in the city and when i visited campus.
whats life like for lgbt people at both mcgill and ubc? From what i can gather Mcgill is more open and has more lgbt societies and is montreal more accepting/open than vancouver? Haven’t heard great things about the one pride group i can find in ubc.
thanks

Cannot speak about UBC specifically, but Vancouver is known for it’s accepting and laid back lifestyle in general. I would guess that it would be more of a fit for LGBT than the vast majority of schools in North America. McGill might be an even a better fit for you, if you can handle the winter. Right in the middle of the city, while UBC is a tad more isolated on a peninsula. Both are attractive campuses, but the views from UBC are terrific.

Not really a bad choice, here. McGill would be the safest bet in terms of quantity of LGBT life, but UBC won’t be far behind. I’d say the question for you is more about the school (both very good, and depending on the field of study, demanding), and whether or not you gravitate to the East or West coast lifestyle.

I love Vancouver and Montreal but, they are very different places. I think you are lucky to have the choice of either.

I agree both Montreal and Vancouver are great cities.

Just curious, when did you get admitted and to which faculty? It seems so fast, they haven’t responded to me yet and I applied in early for Applied Science…

I am an international student, which is probably why I heard early. I literally just got admitted to Montreal on sunday evening having applied on October 4th. I appllied to UBC in early december and heard early february. Both for arts to study humanities. xx
