Lgbt life in the city and uni

Hey everyone. International student here, Got rejected from UofT, which was my dream school, no idea why because my grades are genuinely near perfect :frowning:
I am most likely going to be attending UBC as I’ve been admitted, although I’m still waiting to hear from mcgill (which I’d probably go to over UBC). I think a big part of my wanting to go to toronto was how ‘at home’ i felt as an lgbt person both in the city and when i visited campus.
whats life like for lgbt people at both mcgill and ubc? From what i can gather Mcgill is more open and has more lgbt societies and is montreal more accepting/open than vancouver? Haven’t heard great things about the one pride group i can find in ubc.
thanks

I can’t speak directly about LGBT life or about UBC, but I can say that Montreal is very cosmopolitan. When I toured, I remember seeing at least one gay bar, in addition to scores of nightclubs, bars, restaurants, parks, museums, etc. There appeared to be a lot happening in terms of the arts, a good sign that there is a more liberal attitude in the city. Also, I think generally Canadians are very accepting when it comes to sexuality, more so in such an international city like Montreal. I wouldn’t worry about McGill. You’ll definitely find many other lgbt people both in the college and outside of it.
