The religious organizations that have prime property around the outskirts of the campus and sponsor student organizations are not in-your-face about what they have to offer. They have an open door policy and that is about that.

My daughter grew up in an arts environment and a tolerant family. She is majoring in science, but loved the liberal arts focus and dance opportunities at FSU. She tells me that she knows many openly gay men on campus, and thnks the campus is generally tolerant. She is less familiar with the atmosphere for lesbians, but is not aware of obvious homophobia.

The Union just finished LGBT film week.
Of all the state U’s in Florida, I have to guess that with its liberal arts focus, its dance and art majors, FSU is likely the most tolerant campus. While is is further “south” in a sense that UF, the Gator Nation does not strike me as a place I would expect to find more tolerance. Just a gut feeling, sorry to make an assumption, but…

I have NO DOUBT that if you end up with a roommate situation, housing will work with you to find a solution.

Call the PRIDE student union and chat with folks. And see how students post here about the atmosphere.

Also, look for THE FAMILY TREE:LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER on Facebook. The Family Tree is Tallahassee’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. The Family Tree is home to Branching Out, Tallahassee’s LGBT newspaper. Their website link is not working right now: familytreecenter.org. But the facebook page has most all the info.

Did you know that Congregational/United Church of Christ (UCC) organization is tolerant and openly supportive of gay and lesbians? We attend the local UCC church. I notice that the UCC church on Mahan in Tally was the location for The Family Tree’s first ever Holiday Drag Show, Draggin’ Out the Lights! “Did you make it to the Gospel Drag Show in July? Well, we’re adapting to the holidays! This will be a night chocked full of old friends, new friends, laughter and lots of great entertainment.”
