Liability insurance for off-campus house

For those who have kids renting an off-campus house with a group of students, how have you handled liability insurance? We have a student property insurance policy for D, but CSI apparently does not write liability policies for a single-family house. Appreciate any advice from wiser parents ;)

Any of the homeowners’ insurance companies (State Farm, Allstate, Geico, Liberty Mutual, etc) write renters’ insurance. Those policies are similar to homeowners for liability and property; they simply don’t cover the actual building.

Our car insurance is with GEICO, and they were perfectly happy to connect me with their renters insurance division. For the coverage that the landlord required, Happykid is paying $155 for the full year.

Rentals often require around 100k in personal liability coverage.

If your main insurance provider won’t underwrite it, just google providers in the area you’re looking for. Its pretty cheap. I paid $127 for 1 year in downtown Chicago.
