Libra community

I just got assigned libra community- flagler hall for fall 2011....

I just want to know more information, pros, cons about flagler hall.

And I am also worried about the bathtroom situation. For summer Im living in nike and the bathroom is in a separate from the two rooms. But for libra, I saw in pictures that it connects the two rooms, which is wierd, and Im wondering how you can use the bathroom with the other door unlocked from your suit-mates room.

And where do the libra community students park?????? The nike dorms have the parking right next to it.

Hey I’m staying in Libra (Seminole hall) next year, and I’m really excited! I’m sorry I can’t answer your questions about flagler hall. I can answer your parking question though. I went on a tour last week and they told us the closest parking is parking garage B.

I’ve been wondering about the bathroom locks too! Like, I don’t want someone to be able to walk in on me while I’m on the toilet :b …so I assume there are locks on the doors on the inside? But also it’d be annoying if the people in the room next to you locked you out of the bathroom for exceedingly long amounts of time, you know? Well I hope someone who lives there will answer your question so I’ll know too.

I’m going to be a freshman next year too, although I’m staying in nike  However, I just got back from orientation where I stayed in the Flagler dorms. I can’t really answer the pro’s/cons because I was only there 2 nights, but as far as the bathroom situation, there are locks on both doors. There is also a miniwall type thing blocking the toilet (although it really doesn’t hide anything from one of the rooms if that rooms door was open.) Whenever any of us used the bathroom, we locked both doors. It was just easier that way. If you are just showering or something though, its much better because obviously there is a shower curtain so there is really no need to lock everyone else out of the bathroom if you are in the shower. Also, the sinks are located in your individual room (which is a little weird at first but I’m sure it will be easy to get used to.) So if you only need the bathroom to brush your teeth in the morning, you don’t actually go in the bathroom, you stay in your room and use the vanity area.

Sorry I rambled so much  I hope this helps you out a little.

onceaknight - I’m not staying in Libra, but I have toured the dorms during Open Houses and they showed us real people’s dorms. For the toilet, they’d put a shower curtain up in front of it for privacy.

Hey, I stayed in Libra my first year. I was in Sumter but they’re basically all the same. The roommate matching SUCKS. I changed twice and my last roommate didn’t say a word to me since the day i moved in there. It’s weird living with someone in the same room that you don’t know. The bathroom situation is terrible. You can get locked out and there’s no way to unlock it unless the other people were in their room, which they never were. I was locked out for 11 hours once, in the middle of the night and there’s no community bathrooms around that are unlocked 24/7. People “illegally” cook in their dorms so the whole pod smells like food, which really bothered me. Even though the walls were concrete, you can hear EVERYTHING going on around you, even outside. Plus side is there’s a maid but mine came in at 8am on fridays, my day off so that sucked. The beds are TERRIBLE, find a good matress pad or else you’ll never sleep. By the end, I was sleeping in the space under my bed to get away from my creepo roommate and have some privacy. You’ll miss privacy the most. Overall, the dorms BLOW! That’s why only freshman live in them and the smart upperclassmen move off campus.

To the post above^
i’ve heard nothing but good things about the dorms at UCF. Have you seen the IF dorms? From what I hear, UCF has the nicest, hands down. For people who have shared a room with a sibling, it won’t be, ucf different, except that they’re not your sibling. To the op, don’t walk onto campus thinking dorm life will suck, or it will. You get out of it what you put into it. Have fun:)

I’ve done an online tour of every hall and I have to agree ^^ UCF’s dorms are very nice in comparison to other schools. Obviously any college dorm bed isn’t going to be like the expensive mattress you have at home and everyone I know has a mattress pad for their bed in their dorm. It just sounds like one person had a bad experience and is biased against living in dorms, but I feel like for most people it was better than any other college dorm experience.
