Life Afterwards USMA

Hey everybody, I'm just curious what kinds of things everyone wants to do after USMA. I keep hearing about how horrible the bases are, are they really that bad? Anybody know much about the bases and stuff? And what do you all want to branch? If I go USMA I will almost definitley go Combat Engineer. I'm just looking for information and trying to weigh out options, and life afterwards is a definitley a huge part of deciding what Academy to go to!

either armor officer or aviation officer (apache).

Are the eyesight requirements for aviation uncorrected 20/20? If so, it looks like Infantry for this future cadet.

You have an opportunity to have the lasik surgery performed (I think after your yuk year). Just don't do it beforehand--you will be disqualified.

I want to either go infantry or Medical Service

Army Infantry: Follow me!

I want to go infantry after the academy. I want to go to an arctic unit, 10th Mt. Div., or maybe Rangers. It would be cool to be based in Germany though, then I could take roadtrips to Finland, lol!

Just a side note, Army soldiers live on Posts, not Bases. :) The Air Force resides on Bases.

Never knew that, thanks m4m.

i never thought of that.... and as a wanna be zoomie i should know that!

Yes, now all of us wanna-bes are going to find Army manuals and memorize pointless information as if we were already at the academy... or maybe not. (lol) Anyways, interesting, didn't realize the difference between posts and bases.

so would he be posted in Germany?

Yes, I would be POSTED in Germany, not BASED. Everyone clear? Back to topic.

Infantry all the way. Hopefully special forces.

so why do you guys want to be infantry?

and i cant believe he thought it was based and not posted! :-P

armor or infantry for me

Cool stuff: By the time the c/o 2008 graduates, there will be three new branches open: PSYOP, Civil Affairs, and Ammunition (dealing with EOD stuff).

wow awesome... didnt psyops used to be only for captains and above? Can you talk more about Ammunition? i dono what EOD is.

Well, this will really tick my family off but I'm most likely going infantry... unless of course some huge thing changed my mind. I'm basically set on it though. Hope to post at Bragg, Benning, or Drum (in that order). I suppose Ft. Lewis would be okay because it's close to home and it's a nice post supposedly.

people die in infantry...shhhhhhhhh itsa secret!
