life at NYU?

Can someone tell me what life is like at NYU? most specifically Tisch (more specifically the tv/film school) but ill take an average student

If you can search for Isealbz in the NYU CC forum, try to PM him. He just got into Tisch as a transfer student (film studies). I know he started summer classes this past summer. I am sure he will have great info to share if you can reach him by PM. I am not sure he has the time to come on this forum any more. One thing I know: Tisch students tend to have very full schedules and long days.

Also, regarding life for some NYU students (I am not sure what the “average” student goes through). My son, a CAS student and an aspiring Tisch transfer applicant (Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music), has very efficient study habits. Freshman year was stressful intermittently, with his Mandarin Chinese classes being the most demanding because they required concentrated studying of 5-6 hours a night several times a week for my son, who normally studies in stretches of 2-3 hours at most. Fortunately his other classes were less time intensive for him, though he did work for all classes and attended all classes.
The required general requirements Freshman year like Writing the Essay and Text and Ideas were bummers for S, because he missed getting A range grades by 1 point. (Something ridiculous like that because the curves for those classes were ridiculous.)

He did do well enough to be above the minimum 3.5 GPA freshman year to maintain his MLK scholarship in good standing.

I also noticed that sonny had time to attend a number of the NYC theatre and musical/ jazz concert series we had purchased for the family. He was an active member of the Mock Trial Team at NYU first semester. He also spent a lot of time with his main love, developing his musical band and opening his dorm room to like-minded musicians/ artists. He also planned a trip out of the country with 5 friends during spring break. S is a person who takes initiative. He set up an internship in music production for himself summer between freshman year and sophomore year. He told me some of his skills may have surpassed the Tisch students whom he is hoping to join in classes. He has self-studied so well that a friend and fellow NYU student recognized his abilities and hooked him up Sophomore year to a very prestigious music industry internship. Now S is very busy with full time classes and a full time internship.

Most of S’s friends seemed to be engaged and very busy with their own projects, one in math-related competitions. Another in art projects. Others in pre-med, pre-law studies.
One friend really screwed up with studies and was ordered home for the weekends by parents who live near NYC.

There is a cross-section of students and so many diverse interests, study habits, life-styles, it is hard to characterize an “average NYU student”.

However, you are wise to think about what it is like for a “typical” Tisch tv/ film studies student. There would be more similarities based on area of specialization and similar requirements/ schedules besides more individualized interests within each program.
