Is WFU a pretty conservative school? Although I know I will always be able to find a good group of friends at any school I go to, would you consider the students at WFU to be conservative? Little worried since I have some traits about me that conservatives do not particularly agree with. Just asking since I know North Carolina is a pretty conservative state.
I really liked the campus and the academics, just don’t know if I would be able to fit in.
Also any tips for the application process at WFU would be appreciated!
It is pretty conservative. I’m fairly sure it used to have religious affiliation, though now it doesn’t. Regardless, the conservative values are still there.
@shana1 Did you get the contact info for your tourguide? I’d use that person and/or other contacts you have to gain as good insight as possible. I went there, but it’s been long enough, that the student body has changed a lot since I went there. In this case, I would say that the student body has changed in ways that likely make it easier for someone who self-identifies as you did in this paragraph. I’ve written in other years about what life was like when I did go there (and I also self-identify in many ways that are not “conservative”) That said, I some of my close friends there did end up being folks who do disagree with me on many things and are conservative so, worth being open minded. But, overall, I’d say try to get the scoop from someone who is there currently about the atmosphere as my info is now quite dated, that’s true for most anyone who posts on this forum! Go with an educated gut and when you commit, make whatever college you go to the best experience ever!
Also, relative to the religious aspect, that’s not something I’d take as gospel truth (pun intended!) Certainly when I went there was space allowed for folks who are religious and more than you would find at a typcial So-Cal or NE liberal arts college probably were, but WFU hasn’t been religiously affiliated since somewhere around 1985, hence even alumni whose kids are in college weren’t at Wake when it was remotely close to being religiously affiliated. There are probably only like 2 people on campus who were there then! Good luck @shana1 wherever you end up going and #GoDeacs
It’s no more conservative than other schools in the area and there is no religious affiliation at this point. Wake has a history of promoting inclusion and diversity. Any school that had Steven Colbert give the commencement address (WFU 2015) can’t be too conservative.
