Life/ Atmosphere at Vanderbilt?

Hi!

I am thinking of apply to Vanderbilt ED but have a few questions. I come from a New England boarding school, so I am not worried about the preppy factor, however, I am slightly worried about greeklife. I would like to join a sorority but don’t know much about greek culture down there. Is it cut throat? How competitive is it to get into a nice sorority? Are the girls over all kind to one another? Any thoughts on the overall what the culture/life is like for a girl at Vanderbilt would be helpful!! Thanks so much!!

50% of the females participate in greek life. There are other threads on the process, but in a nutshell the entire process occurs in the beginning of second semester. It is an emotional roller coaster and depending on your desires may be quite competitive. One thing to keep in mind, is once the dust has settled, the friends you made during the first semester will still be there even if there are in separate sororities or decided not to participate. I would just view it as another way to participate in campus activities. The sorority you join does not define who you are.

Just another guy’s observations & opinions.

I will follow this up by saying that while trying to join some sororities is more competitive than others, every girl who goes through the rush process gets a bid and the opportunity to join somewhere. It may be your first choice or your last, but sororities at least don’t turn anyone away. And while the tier system always seems important to some, in the end the best place is the one where you will want to spend nights and weekends hanging out with the girls, top ranked option.
