Life in New/North

Hi CC,

I'm an admitted student who just attended the Trustee ExploreUSC session (amazing program!). I was repeatedly told by students that New/North is the "party dorm". I was wondering whether this just means it is the most social dorm or if it is truly out-of-control and a bad environment for those who take school seriously.

I'm deciding between New/North and Birnkrant as my top choice; to my understanding, next year Birnkrant will only house scholarship students, and I feel like I might be able to get a more "typical" college experience in New/North.

By the way, I'm planning on pursuing the pre-med route.

Any input would be greatly appreciated..

it’s true, new/north is the party dorm/most social dorm. If you want the best “typical” college experience, room there!! Although I never lived there, I know tons of people who are there now and they love it. Just know that you will have to be very disciplined with your studies (which I’m sure you are, being a scholarship recipient) because there will literally ALWAYS be distractions haha. Luckily, new/north is a very short walk from Leavey, the library that’s open 24/7 so having a quiet place to study is never be a problem!

oh and new/north is like 80% greek if not more, so take that into consideration. If you want to check out a fraternity/sorority, even more reason to room here or if you despise the idea of doing so, you may get annoyed.
