I was wondering if the Calculus BC score for AP counts towards the 1 year of prerequisite for life science majors.
Right now, im being placed into Calculus III at my CC. That means I completed Calc I and Calc II, atleast its bypassed cause of my AP score.
Do i still need to take that extra calculus?

Also, if I am unable to take 1 semester of Ochem (prerequisitie requirement) cause of the sequencing, will I not be able to transfer. I am spending one year at CC after high school, because I have 39/60 credits already, im only finishing my prereqs now.

thank youu.

Yes you have to take that extra calculus class. Life science majors need to complete 3 quarters of the math/calculus sequence, and BC credit only gives you 2 quarters of credit.

In regards to your first question, I believe most life science majors require 31A, 31B, and 32A, or 3A, 3B, and 3C. According to this page [AP Credit - College of Letters and Science - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/APCreditLS.htm)
only a 4 or a 5 on the BC exam will allow you to skip 31A, and to skip 31B you need a 5, so yes, your AP test will count if you got a 4 or 5 (if you got a 3 you would only get units). You would still have to complete 32A or 3C, and if you decide to do so at the CC (I’m guessing the equivalence is Calc III), I’m pretty sure it will transfer over such that when you eventually get to UCLA you wouldn’t have to take any more math classes for your major (unless you want to take stats or for some medical schools that don’t accept AP credit and require a year of math taken at the university level), but check with a counselor to make sure.

You can see how your CC calculus coursework will transfer over to UCLA here: [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST). Just specify which CC the course is being taken at and pick UCLA as the destination school.

Thank you for all your responses! this is my first time posting in CC and its really reassuring to see there are actually helpful individuals such as yourselves.

In regards to my AP score, I got a 4.
So does that qualify for 1 year of calculus.
I understand that I will have to take the third semester of calculus.
But since it qualified for 31A and 31B, isn’t that equivalent to 1 year (which is the prereq)?

So i can either take calc III now or next semester to get it over with, or wait for UCLA to finish it up.

And to be clear, my CC, college of the canyons, is giving me credit for Calc I and Calc II for a 4 in Calculus BC.
So right now I am enrolled in Calc III, which is equivalent to 32A or 3c.

One tangential point to mention. Since many life-science majors are thinking about med school, you should be aware that some/many med schools will not accept AP credit as satisfying the math requirement for admission.
