Hey, I am a rower and I am interested in pursuing the sport in college. I currently have a 6:47 2k. What kind of times would I need to get recruited for Cornell, Darmouth, Georgetown, Columbia, and UPenn? Also, what SAT scores would need to go along with this?

On another note, I am a junior. So by the time I am applying, I should have a 6:40 or under.

I hear it’s easier to get recruited by Cornell because of its slightly lower academic standards. How much easier is it to get recruited to Cornell as compared to Georgetown, Dartmouth, Columbia, etc?

Someone with a lot of experience said to me, “there are tons of kids north of 6:45.” The closer you get to 6:30, the better off you will be and the more, um, likely you will be to be offered a likely letter. They’ll want you at 2000+ but whether or not that is deal breaker may well depend on who else is in your recruiting class.

I read it to mean that you had better be pulling faster than 6:47 to see strong interest. Lots can pull slower than 6:47…
the faster you are–the better.

Right, fogfog. There are a LOT of kids who pull 6:45s, 6:46s, 6:47. The field narrows considerably when you cross below the 6:45 threshold but doesn’t get small until you cross below 6:35 and once you are at around 6:30 it gets downright tiny.
