Likeliness of being accepted into Bryn Mawr College

Hey I’m a junior at a private Catholic school about to finish my first semester. I’ve basically jumped the gun and completed a lot of the requirements for the college application (really all the ones I’m capable of finishing at the moment) so I’m wondering if I’ve got a good shot at being accepted into BMC.

SAT: 710 evidence based reading & writing
540 math
=1250 overall (this is my first score and without taking any SAT classes)

I have two recommendations, one from my Literature teacher (I’m not sure if credibility plays a large role but he’s been published several times) and my AP U.S. History teacher (he was asked to be the main historian for a documentary and is published as well).

I take 4 AP/Honors classes (Chemistry, History, Java Programming, and English). I also take Horror Literature, Latin, Algebra II, and Theology III.

For ECs I am a part of the Model UN Secretariat (next year I’ll be President), National Junior Classical League, and Latin Club.

Accomplishments: I co-organized a Peacekeeping Awareness week where MUN raised money to donate to the UN Peacekeepers. I’ve won a Distinguished award on my MUN Position Paper as Sweden. I’ve been published in my school’s academic journal. I won the Magna Cum Laude award on the Latin National Exam.

I’m not sure if these are things I should include on my application but I self published a novella when I was 12, I have composed several musical pieces and can play 4 instruments, I have had a play I wrote performed at my school, and I have volunteered for 2 years at a convent as well as other, more scattered, places.
Thank you for reading

I’d say you’re basically set.

There are some things I should note, however:

  1. Your math score (I'm not super sure about the scoring of the new SAT, but I'm basing this off of some conversion I did) is low. Your reading/writing score, and your other abilities make up for that, but if you were accepted at BMC you would probably have to complete the QSEM course (basically an intro to college-level math) as well as a regular math requirement. I would recommend taking the test again with a focus on studying math, but don't stress too much over it in terms of getting accepted. (on the old SAT, the minimum math score to not have QSEM was like a 620).
  2. The credibility/background of your academic recommendations have very little, if any influence. It's a good idea to get them from different subjects, but no undergrad admissions officer cares. They don't have time to research your teachers; they just want to know what your recs have to say about you. Grad school may be a different story.
  3. Definitely include any and all achievements (if space on the common app is an issue, stick to high school ones) in your application. Talk about them in your essay. The more the merrier.

But yeah, I can’t see a single reason why you wouldn’t have a very good chance of getting accepted.

Thank you! Yes I’ll definitely focus on math. This is very encouraging, thank you again!

Also, test scores are optional at Bryn Mawr assuming you’re not intl. If you don’t like them just don’t submit them.
