so if i got a likely letter for engineering from CORNELL, does that mean i have a good chance at other ivies?? i applied to yale, harvard, princeton, brown, and penn (stanford too) for engineering. so if cornell really liked my app, is there a good chance the other schools will to? or do they look for very different things?

likely at Cornell does not equal getting into Cornell, let alone getting into Harvard. I'm sure you still have a good chance, and in Cornell it's a highly likely chance, almost 100%, but yeah every ad com is different.

i was under the impression that a likely letter was an in...am i wrong?

basically, i guess im asking what is cornell's engineering applicant pool like in comparison to the other schools listed above? are they about the same or is cornell's weaker in comparison?

It means that, for the most part, you're in; there could be something that goes wrong and they can't offer you admission. But Cornell is one of the easier Ivies; so I think you have a good chance at the others, but a likely at Cornell doesn't tell us much.

I would say being at the top of cornell's pool, esp. in a stong program like engineering, suggests you have a solid shot at other ivies.
Good luck!

i got a likely from Yale but was deferred from Harvard EA... i imagine your still a strong candidate for any school -- it's just a matter of having that ''it'' factor that will get you into HYP and Stanford

The Ivies cannot offer RD acceptances until the 29th (although Cornell has some rolling admits -- I don't know what and how there). However, I've not heard of any school NOT offering admission to a recipient of a "Likely" letter. I suppose they can rescind if YOU do something crazy like rob a bank or something. It's their way of early marketing (especially to athletes who otherwise have to sign letters of intent at other schools).

Although it's not 100% official, congratulations anyways. If other schools accept you, it'll be a nice choice to have. Regardless Cornell engineering is a sweet prgm. Have a great rest of Senioir year!
