Does Cornell send out likely letters? I just got one (very unexpectedly) from Yale, but I would MUCH rather go to Cornell. I just wanted to kno if Cornell even did that.

Yes I believe they do.

yes they do. My friend got one 2 years ago. He's an engineer there now.

What are likely letters?

Likely letters are colleges way of saying "we're going to accept you" before they can officially say so. Helps bring up the yield.

Are you a music buff perfectfourth?

Yes. I am, I'm impressed someone finally caught on to 'PerfectFourth'. Are you a music buff?

not that im expecting one, but when r these likely letters sent? do they send "were gonna reject you" letters?

eibrahim: no they just reject ppl w/o giving warning lol i dunno

P4: Haha I have my AP Theory midterm tomorrow. I should really start studying at some point. Are you CU09? I play jazz, btw.

Yeah man, I want a "we're gonna reject you letter"!! Wait...maybe that was what I got in December!!!!!!!!

lol are you talking about deferral letters?

If you do not get a likely letter does that mean that you are not getting in?

-WJJ

No it doesn't mean you're not getting in...it could mean they didn't read your app yet or it could just mean they didn't feel the need to send you one. From what I've heard they are often sent mainly to people who they feel will get into other schools at the same level as/above Cornell and therefore Cornell wants to lure them in. :D

And yes, deferral letter=we're going to reject you letter...well in my case anyway. :p

By the Common Ivy Group Admissions Procedures, schools are allowed to send "early evaluation letters" that indicate "likely," "possible," or "unlikely."

In practice, I don't know of any Ivy schools that send possible or unlikely letters. There wouldn't be any advantage to that.

Do other schools send likly letters, or just Ivies?

i think i got one from emory... it said "thank you for your application...blah blah... your reported grades indicate that you are the kind of student who traditionally is successful at Emory." anyone else get one of those?

yeah, I got that, but thats not a likely letter...I don't think. I'm under the impression that likely letters are explicit as in "you are likely to be accepted."

Yea mine said that they were saving a place for me in the Class of 2009 provided my grades dont drop and my record stays clean. They even invited my to "Bulldog Days" their version of Cornell Days.

so wait...those likely letters mean you're probably going to get in? im jw b/c i just got a letter from bucknell that was like "on the basis of our preliminary readings in a very strong applicant pool, i can report that admission appears most likely for you." so is that good or do they send that shizzle to everyone? lol

my friend bryan got one of those yesterday too, i think it is a likely letter, i haven't seen it though so i don't know for sure

(he got one from bucknell i mean)
