Likely letter thread!

^less than two weeks?? whens decision day?

some body, possibly a damn liar, told me it was being released today since it kinda starts the begining of late march? please some one clarify

Decision day should be next Thursday or Friday. Last year it was the 26th.

^THAT IS SO SOON. I have a piano competition on saturday. its gonna make me too depressed or too happy to perform

I cannot deal with a date that’s subject to change. I think I’ll just wait until the 2nd to check everything.

I received an email from a student today talking about the Latino Recruitment weekend and how I should definitely sign up, but I never received the actual letter. I’m thinking maybe it went to my spam folder and got deleted or something?

Missymargaux:
My son received the email a couple of weeks ago. A few days later the same information came in a large envelope via USPS. He also received the reminder email today. You should call one of the two ladies listed in the info- Ms. Reid or Ms. Reyes and ask them about the event if you need more information.
PM me if you need their contact info.

how come likely letters were for the most part only sent to minority candidates?

Because Likely Letters increase attachment to a school which then leads to a higher yield among LL recipients. Duke doesn’t need a higher yield among white/ORM applicants, but their URM population could use some bolstering. Thus, they send out LLs to URMs in hopes of further diversifying their student body.

Btw, I pulled this explanation completely out of my ass but it seems like it makes sense.

^^while this could make sense, I think its more of a let’s not send out likely letters this year kind of thing. They usu send out likely letters to non minorities to recruit them away from ivy league schools, so i don’t see why they wouldn’t still do that this year.

Hey missmargaux! I also recieved the same follow up letter with recieving the initial invite and I didn’t recieve anything in the mail. I emailed miss Reid yesterday but she still has yet to respond…could this have been a mistake?!? I’m slightly freaking out please help!

Without* recieving

I think the notification date will be Tuesday the 23rd because last year it was Tuesday the 24th according to some posts on CC.
Son was deferred ED. We were told that only 10% of the deferred ED pool will be accepted at RD time.
We’ll see what happens.
Good luck to everyone and let’s hold out the thought that decisions happen for a reason.

good luck hoping4duke, … I am waiting for the FA award, … in the end, it’s always the $$ that makes the final call <sigh></sigh>

oh WOW that is soon o.o

Many people are saying it is going to be the 26th, like last year…

Really? THAT early? O_O

last year was the 24th according to CC posts so the 23rd this year. Tues to Tues.

no, last year was the 26th

Anyways, it’s probably going to be sometime this week.

Finger’s crossed. It’ll be my 4th decision. Though unless I get a good financial package, I’ll have to go to Emory.
