Likely letter thread!

There may not be any “general” likelies here, but there have been scholarship finalists who have been admitted early, and those are sent without regard to race.

If you’re interested in “proof” or just want to learn more, google Duke UpClose…this is the program that likely candidates are invited to.

According to past threads, Duke UpClose was discontinued last year. Likely letters were still sent though.

I received an LSRW email from Duke yesterday at 10 AM!

what is LSRW?

… the 11th annual Latino Student Recruitment Weekend (LSRW), being held from April 8-11, 2010 …

yeah ahhaah i figured that out right after I posted the question and now I feel dumb.

I got a likely letter for African American students!! Yay I’m so excited :)

Half of college admissions is luck…
Also, your counterpart may have had an excellent essay (which seems to be ever important in admissions).
What URM are you? AA? I know they only do minority likelies Hispanic and AA.
Probably, you’re just unlucky though. I know how it feels.
I have a 35 ACT, 3.97 UW and am top 2% in a class of 1100 with excellent ECs and good to great essays and I was rejected from Stanford Early Action, yet I received a likely to Columbia…
It’s all a crap shoot. You’ll probably be hearing some good news come the RD release date.

class of 1100? wow where do u go to school?

Handala92…I know it feels like blasphemy, I know it doesn’t seem right. But as many people have stressed, a minute percentage of admits receive this letter.

Aznjunior…chicagoland…Stevenson High School…we have around 4500 kids total…it’s actually a huge disadvantage because it is a highly competitive public school. There are lots of 4.00 UW GPAs so kids who get Bs and Cs are hurt really bad considering they can drop down out of the Top 25%. Also, someone like me, who would be top 2 or 3 KIDS in a smaller school can only muster top 20 or 30…which is awesome (in my mind haha) but college admissions counselors probably don’t have the time to notice

no likely letter from duke from me. :(

No likely letter from Duke for my D :frowning: Also Sunday will be a big day for her when she will hear from MIT, her first choice. Good luck to all!!!

I just got the paper version of my LSRW invite, and it reads MUCH more as a “standard” likely letter. It has phrases such as … "As one of our top applicants … ", “… meet your future fellow Blue Devils …”, etc. and also mentions that I can choose instead to attend “Blue Devil Days” if that is what works into my schedule … any one else get one?

if you’re a minority who didn’t get one, r u screwed? i wonder how many minorities they accept other than those :/

^Definitely not. You still have a chance for admission.

How come it seems like they are still trying to be coy about acceptance in the LSRW brochure? Obviously if it’s after the date when acceptances come out, that means we are going to be accepted…it’s not like they will end up rejecting us and withdrawing our invitations (talk about rubbing salt on the wound!)

" How come it seems like they are still trying to be coy about acceptance in the LSRW brochure? Obviously if it’s after the date when acceptances come out, that means we are going to be accepted…it’s not like they will end up rejecting us and withdrawing our invitations (talk about rubbing salt on the wound!)"… Yea, plus if you’re getting financial assistance then it would especially not make sense if they rejected you. I qualified for financial assistance and they have already paid for my plane ticket. It simply would not make sense for them to buy me a plane ticket to an event after admission results were released and then reject me.

any nonminority likelies yet?

Seems like their might not be any non-minority letters this year. It wouldn’t really make sense for them to send them out this late, as we are less than two weeks away from decisions.
