for those who got the likely letter...
did you guys apply way before the due date?

no, I applied at like 10 pm on the due date

Cornell was the last college I applied to; I applied so late that I had to rush my SAT scores [like admissions told me I had to, lol].

yay i got a letter just now!! CAS, california resident!

Congrats!!!

I applied on the 31st of Dec. I think.

congratulations!

in your likely letters... do they mention when official decisions will be released? unless i've missed something, i can't seem to find the date of official decisions. march 29, i would hope. or earlier, of course =)

hey aznsushi, what was the postmark on your letter?

i applied like november 20th

the letter was written march 14 and postmarked march 15.

"Although the Ivy League schools will not officially notify students about admission until early April, it may help you with your planning to know that we are very interested in you. It is quite out of the ordinary for us to mail a letter such as this to an Arts and Sciences applicant; however, we are sending this letter to those who have been nominated as Tanner Dean's Scholars."

hope that helps, good luck everyone!

I doubt the tanner dean's scholars are only permanent US citizens. If you check the locations of each year's scholars, some of them are international.

It says this on Cornell's site about Tanner Dean Scholars:

Each year the college's undergraduate admissions committees name a small group of outstanding applicants as The Pauline and Irving Tanner Dean's Scholars. These scholars are chosen from applicants with demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for the life of the mind and with outstanding high school records. The program is designed to honor students for their attributes and accomplishments and to attract them to the college. It is also designed to support and guide some our most promising students in their acculturation to the academic and intellectual life of the college.

So I guess applicants who have been selected for this are also getting likely letters... Dang.

Mine came same day as MIT rejection, but I opened the letter before I checked on MIT online, so I was still happy even after that. :D

My likely letter came approximately ten seconds after i got accepted to MIT, so basically those were the best ten seconds of my life.

I got the letter the day before MIT's rejection..so that helped me out a TON...made me completely ok with it. well...not completely...but pretty freaking good.

How many people get likely letters from Engineering?

So, do I have this right? At first we thought the college of arts and sciences were not sending out likely letters. Now it appears they are, and you don't have to be an URM or international to get it because outstanding students without either status are getting the likely letters? Thanks

CMA1, yes and yes.

So does anyone think there is any hope for more engineering likelies?
