Can somebody tell me what a likely letter is?

its a letter that tells you your likely to get in :)

I got mine in mid February. It talked about how strong of an applicant I was and how they hoped I would visit in april and give them full consideration. If you have HYP numbers, you should get one.

A little info from last year: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2007/02/letter-frenzy.html

How many letters of rec can we send? Would one teacher, one counselor, and one community member be ok? I think I asked this before but I don't remember. Thanks :)

Another one covered in my blog: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2007/10/recommendation-overload.html

ok, that was very helpful. The counselor letter still concerns me though, but I guess I'll have to live with that one. Thanks again, Dean J.

Does anyone know the percentage of accepted applicants that receive a likely letter? I ask b/c of discussion I had with a Director of Guidance at a FFX county school. She contends that a likely letter is rare and essentially only people that might be accepted to a HYPS caliber school receive them.

Thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. t/y

As I've stated on my blog, there is no set number of letters sent out. To quote myself, "a fraction" of students get one.

what is a HYP number/ HYP caliber school????

HYPS = Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford
