UChicago is not part of the Ivy League, and therefore can do whatever it wants with likely letters (since they aren’t bound by the rules of the Ivy League). Allowing those who have received likely letters to access the admitted students page is wholly rational and understandable given the purpose of likely letters (and assuming, since I can’t verify this because I haven’t been admitted :P, that others’ statements that the admitted students page is highly professional, extensive, and extremely informative). I assume that the admissions office is going to see if the fact that they sent out likely letters increases their yield amongst the elite students they sent them to (relative to previous years, I’m sure they have some statistic on this internally), and, if it seems to have helped, they’ll continue the practice.

Hey again.
In addition to the letter, I got an e-mail two days ago also giving me access to the admitted student page.
However, when I try to click “connect” it gives me an “error 403” message - so I can’t actually get to any of the features they describe (the chat, etc).
I can, however, get to housing information, an online copy of my “decision” letter, and the button to “confirm my enrollment.”
Any other likely letter / EA acceptees having this problem?

As far as the letters themselves go, the letter did say that it is a “provisional” acceptance, barring a “precipitous decline” in my grades. The new e-mail does promise, however, that I will be getting a formal offer in March.
Congrats to everyone else. Have you gotten other LLs? I haven’t.

Now you’re confusing me :-/

?

Referring to likely letters OTHER than the Chicago one - directed at other people who got one from Chicago.
ie did anyone with a Chicago LL get one from Brown, Duke, Yale, etc?

Elanorci, I am having the same problem when I hit “connect,” although, like you, I can access the other parts of the Admitted Students website. I haven’t contacted their Admissions Office yet, since I’m assuming because it’s the weekend they haven’t had time to do anything about it. If I still can’t connect tomorrow, I’m going to contact Admissions.

And I haven’t gotten any other likely letters, and I think it’s pretty unlikely that I will get any others.

Thanks!
And I’m having the same problem. I’m pretty sure that I’m not going to get any other likely letters (and I haven’t so far). I think Chicago is especially unique in its approach to admissions.

To all you RD Likely Letter peeps who’re having trouble with “Connect.” You’re not really missing out on much. The whole purpose of “Connect” is to allow you to interact with others who have been admitted. All of the EA kids have essentially deserted it, so there isn’t really anyone to talk to. It has some interesting stuff, a discussion board (but it doesn’t get used much), a message system, a way to upload a photo… but overall I think most everyone has moved away from it and joined their own little group. I’m sure activity will pick up when RD decisions come out, but until then, I wouldn’t worry about it. All the good info is in the other areas of your account.

Well, congrats to all you likely letter recipients! Hopefully I’ll be getting something similar come April, although I’m not altogether sure whether I’d go…

@Elan- Thanks for the clarifications!
Hope to connect with you in less than a month ;-)
