Likely Letters!!!

anybody got a likely letter yet???
anyone know when we would get one???
that is.. if we are qualified enough....

does cornell even send out likely letters?

*** is a likely letter?

Yeah Cornell sends them out. I don't know when but all the Ivies agreed to unified admissions standards, you can download the Ivy Admissions Standards bulletin off any ivy league school's website. They all send likely letters out but only to applicants that are extraordinary within the applicant pool.

I got an acceptance letter for Cornell today, it definitely wasn't just a likely letter.

I was very surprised to get it this early, I thought it was just more reminders to send in financial info or something. It wasn't the full acceptance package with housing and financial aid though. I don't see why they would even bother sending me this, but I SURE DON'T MIND.

***....already?

i don't understand how this admissions process works....

Pygo must mean rolling admissions. I completed my app. sometime in January (considering it took them long to update)...I wonder how long it will take, but I am eagerly waiting!

It's gonna be a helluva month, guys!

Hmmm...I didn't realize Cornell had rolling admissions all this time. It was one of the first I completed my app for though (early december) so that might be why I recieved notice earlier than a lot of other people.

Good luck everyone!

Likely letters are mostly for really really outstanding applicants and athletes that they want to notify early before they get snapped up by rolling state schools . . . right?

yup pretty much...

the purpose of a likely letter is to say "wait for an acceptance from us, because you're getting one, even if we can't officially extend you one now, and then you can weigh your FA awards and priorities, etc. once you get it."

i met someone here who got a likely letter

he was also admitted to Columbia RD and waitlisted in the Huntsman Program at wharton

Last year, I received a likely letter from Cornell, and it is a good feeling. Likely letters are given to students who the admissions office seriously want to come to their school. They believe that they would be good assets to the student body, their school environment, etc., and they want to get a hold of them before they are offered admission to other schools.

sdma89:
around when did you get the likely letter from cornell??

I can't remember exactly, but it was around this time last year. I'm tempted to say it was in the last 2 weeks of february.

sdma89: Does the letter come by normal post or by email as well?

Pygo, which college did you apply to?

Agriculture and Life Sciences

My daughter also received an acceptance letter on Friday, Feb 17th, having left Ithaca on Feb 15th. It came in a very thin business envelope. She was accepted in the CALS and applied in late December, the 27th I believe. The letter inside said that the substantive acceptance (housing and finacial aid)info will come in early April, so I'm not really sure why they sent this, but we are very relieved nonetheless.

Any of the aforementioned aceptees applied for AEM in CALS?

I don't remember getting an email. It came in the normal postal mail.
