im worried tho becasue i did not recieve a likely for northeastern either
My full stats and ECs are in the Princeton SCEA thread (deferred), but basically 2390 single-sitting SAT, 3.93 UW GPA (school does not rank), National Merit Finalist & National AP Scholar from California. I’ve also done some really unique things in high school related to international relations, linguistics, and East Asian Studies.
My tip for any underclassmen reading this thread would be to not limit extracurricular activities to your school or community. Think bigger and bolder! I’m not the president of any club at school (too much bureaucracy within school administration to get anything done…) but I’m involved with the UN on an international level and have interned at micro finance NGOs, I’ve published papers on modern Japanese foreign relations during the Tokugawa era, performed piccolo solos in Central Europe with my youth symphony, and received a scholarship from the Finnish state department to study abroad as a high school diplomat! I guarantee it’ll make you stand out more than the typical “president of mock trial, speech and debate, national honor society, French club, and captain of the varsity soccer team.”
Place yourself in the shoes of an admissions officer and craft your own memorable story! Make sure no one else can tell the same story as you-- the things you do in high school have to be resoundingly YOURS. That being said, you still must receive top notch test scores and maintain excellent grades.
There’s another wave of likely letters coming out, so don’t worry! Also students who get likely letters represent less than 10% of Penn’s RD acceptees.
To add to @ambitious19 tips…it doesn’t hurt to have parents with ~$400,000 income as well just keeping it real
@Ambitious19 - Congratulations on your likely letter!! I’ve been following your posts and you definitely deserve this sort of recognition—I was really impressed with how levelheaded and upbeat you remained throughout the entire application process.
Don’t even worry about the Regents. The whole process is a lot more numbers-based than they’d like people to believe, and not being selected says nothing about the magnitude of one’s accomplishments. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of great schools to choose from come March. Best of luck making your decision, and enjoy the rest of your senior year!
I heard that a few people received likely letters from Wharton, and someone on CC mentioned that one of their friends got a likely letter from Wharton.
I am a URM with near perfect gpa( and my midd year shows Straight Apluses in a full AP schedule) , lots of ECs and national achievement finalist, decent Sats(2140) and great subject tests( 780 m2, 760 chem), and a great essay that took me a month to write-and i wasn’t liklied- considering they usually go out to URMs to entice them? like does this mean I’m not getting in?
So far on CC I’ve only seen CAS likelies…
Does anyone that applied to Wharton receive a likely letter? Or know anybody that did?
My URM D is a freshman in CAS and did not get a likely letter last year. Don’t lose hope!
Northeastern doesn’t give out likely letters from what I’ve heard. Some of my friends have started to hear from them but I’m pretty sure those are just RD notifications.
Northeastern does not send out likely letters. Top RD applicants (those who received major merit aid) were notified 2 weeks ago. The rest will be notified in mid-March.

This was posted in The Daily Pennsylvanian yesterday, more letters to come.
Woot! Crossing my fingers for myself and all of you. Just remember that only a fraction of accepted students get 'em either way.
@Picktails, phew! That is such a relief…i applied to LSM, and I was scared that they had already sent them out and I didn’t get one! They were apparently sent out on Feb 28th last year…
GUYS you shouldn’t be waiting for likely letters, or else you’ll just end up disappointed. No one should be expecting a likely letter. Chances are, you won’t receive one-- as ahawkins said, only a tiny percentage of accepted students receive likely letters. If you do end up getting one, it’ll be a wonderful surprise. Going into the RD round, I had no expectations whatsoever, which made my Penn likely that much more exciting.
Good luck everyone!
I was told that the second round of likely letter is for dual degree applicants.
@StevenToCollege, yeah I believe I read somewhere that they send likely letters out to the dual degree acceptances!!
Are the likely letters sent as emails or paper copies? Or through the applicant portal?
According to an admissions officer on the Penn 2019 Facebook group, the second batch of likely letters has gone out!
Congrats to all the new admits!
What’s the link?
Someone on Twitter posted that they were accepted. You can search up the penn19 tag
