What percentage of accepted students, on average, get a likely letter? Im talking about Rice in specifics.

I’m Not sure. i would venture to say no more than 3% tops.

I received likely letters from Yale, Stanford, Duke, Harvard, Cornell, and Carnegie Mellon. Would anybody be interested in seeing these letters out of curiosity?

i didnt know cmu sent them. cool.

Sometimes the recruitment gets crazy if a college really wants you. I got offers for free trips to come visit numerous universities. For example Stanford payed for all of my expenses to come to Admit weekend, which was GREAT!

J11T,

are you an athlete?

I was in High School, but not to the level to get recruited to play on the collegiate level. I’ve heard TOP Athletes get special treatment.

J11t, what do you think led to you getting so many likely letters?

I got one from Columbia. I’m a white non-athlete (college level athletics at any rate) so it must have been my academics + ECs that did it.

I think having unique experiences and showing a lot of passion…showing it to the point where the adcoms can envision you as an active and productive student on campus makes a HUGE difference. These letters usually state you are a very “STRONG Candidate” and they feel other “competitive institutions” would love to have you as well. Like most things, these decisions are a combination of many factors.

i know my essay/application overall was superb and in my essay i specifically told them that Rice was my number 1 choice so…i dont know if that means they already know i will go there if i get accepted so a likely letter isnt needed?

i got a likely letter from rice. Im a white non-athlete in state. J11T that is incredible!!! would you mind posting stats and a little about your unique experiences and passion? i would love to hear about them. you sound amazing:)

For all those wondering how J11T got all these letters, this year, due to economic woes, colleges are favoring students whose essays are full of spelling mistakes. Also, students who can make up stories are favored.

^Wow, that was mean.

J11T – with AA, saludictorian status, 2200+ SAT’s, quirky EC’s, you’re basically a shoo-in.

blueducky, if J11T is “with AA, saludictorian status, 2200+ SAT’s, quirky EC’s, you’re basically a shoo-in”, then I agree my post was mean. I retract it.

Dude, just stop it with the sarcasm already.
