Limited choices, unsure about where to go.

I'm currently a senior in HS and I'm having somewhat of a tough time choosing between where to go next year. Early this year I had hopes for getting into schools like UCR, CSULB and SDSU but I recieved rejections from those schools and countless others, I just kind've gave up on going anywhere.

I've been accepted to SFSU so far and I'm still waiting for Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton and SJSU. I doubts about going to SFSU since doesn't really have anything to offer for me. Out of the other three I'm considering, I'll most likely be choosing SJSU since it's by far the closest one and I heard they have a decent business program.

The other choice I have is going to a community college, which was my original choice assuming I wouldn't get in anywhere I want. I'm leaning towards Ohlone, since I've already applied and because it's really close to home. If I were to go to De Anza, Chabot or Foothill I'd probably have a tough time commuting.

If I do end up going to a JC, I'll want to be transferring to somewhere like USC, UCLA, Boston, Cal Poly, mid tier UC's or somewhere of that caliber. The main problem is that I'm not sure if I'll be motivated enough to study. I had a 2.8 in HS and my SAT was around 1630 and that's nowhere near the stats of those schools. I want to believe that I can do better than that if I gave it my all but it's the uncertainty that really bugs me.

I wouldn't say I completely slacked off in HS. I attended class everyday(I've probably missed class 2 times at the max my whole HS career, and those were excused absences). I listen in class for the most part, did my work, etc.
Honestly, I still don't know what went wrong or how ended up pulling off a 2.8.

How do you think I should approach my current situation?

red, this comment by you says it all:

“The main problem is that I’m not sure if I’ll be motivated enough to study.”

maybe college is not for you

get a job flipping burgers for a year or two and lets see how motivated you get for studying.

Right now…wait until you get the rest of your acceptances so that you’ll know what you’re dealing with.

If you get accepted to San Jose, then go there. It’s location is good for a business major.

If you don’t get into SJ, then commute to the best CC (that isn’t too far!!) and transfer when you can.

Keep in mind, that schools like Boston are not going to give transfer students good aid, so unless you can pay full freight, don’t expect much help.

If you do well at the CC, you can transfer to a UC or USC.

Was this a slacking issue, or is there something else going on?
If you are in public school, you may want to consider getting evaluated for learning issues before you graduate. If you have attention issues, that evaluation is generally covered by insurance.

Not everyone who does poorly in HS has “issues”.
Being in class and listening is not studying.
