Lindner Business Honors?

I’d pick direct admit with honors at Farmer over Fisher - better advising, more interesting and interactive classes, better teaching quality, better placement. But that’s “on paper” - fit matters too, and tOSU is certainly in a bigger city and has bigger sports than Miami. I’d be hesitant to prioritize this over academics or placement but it’s all very personal, and that’s why visits are so important.

I agree with you about the priorities and fit. I’m concerned about job placement. I took my D on the general tours during her junior year. We are touring all DA business schools this spring. We are both looking forward to our several upcoming tours.

@Thinkofalogin I wouldn’t get overly hung up on the job placement statistics. All of our children on this link seems to be highly motivated students. I don’t believe it is entirely the responsibility of the school to place the student in a job. Students have a very important role in the job placement process. Starting freshman year, students need to work hard and start preparing themselves. They need to get involved, maybe think about timing for a coop or study abroad session. Depending on the school, they will need to search out the office or people to help them achieve their plans. Students need to make themselves unique on a resume compared to their graduating peers. They have to be marketable and much of this depends on them.

They are starting to post Cincinnatus awards. S received $2000/yr. Although I knew this would be the amount based on what I have read, it is still disappointing. IMO, if Cincinnati wants some of these high stat students, they are going to have to do a little more to get them. We are from OH and I know the State schools reputations and when paying virtually the same yearly amount for a business degree, Cincinnati does not win over a Miami or OSU. Of course, I’m not the one attending the school but, I’m going to have a hard time keeping Cincinnati high on the list.

S received $3,000 from UC, $4,000 from OSU, and $9,000 from Miami. Miami’s list price is several thousand higher, so the net prices are close, but UC’s award is disappointing since one expects to get more merit aid from a less-selective institution. Overall, Ohio doesn’t seem to be a very good state for merit aid. S got full tuition at Ole Miss and $25,000 at 'Bama. Too bad he doesn’t want to travel that far for college.

@BasicOhioParent I’m not sure if you are from OH or outside. If you are in-state, I would consider $4,000 from OSU and $9,000 from Miami good. If you are OOS then, not so good.

Cincinnati believes that the co-op money kids earn is pat of the “package”. I don’t see it that way. Did anyone really look at the list of expenses under the financial aid summary for Cincinnati. When looking at schools, I customarily add tuition/fees and room/board to compare schools. I generally ignore travel, book, etc. When I looked at the breakdown of the $29,700+ for Cincinnati, there was a Misc. Fee for the year of $4800+. When I dove deeper, the amount had a couple random fees and a bulk of it was Instructional Class Fees (?). To me, this should be in the tuition amount and no other colleges we are accepted to split the amounts like this. Slightly deceiving when normally that kind of fee would be rolled up into tuition. As a result, it makes actual tuition less than it really is IMO.

Regarding the southern schools you mentioned, there are schools that are known for high merit. My boys would not like Alabama, my daughter probably would. Too far for us from OH. The 5.5 hrs. back and forth from Purdue has become a pain with my oldest.

Just curious, any responses for honors yet?

We haven’t heard anything, and I can’t remember when UC said they would notify everyone.

My son heard a little bit ago that he was selected for LHP.

S just got “official” congratulatory email stating he is in the Circle of Excellence Program.

My son just got the Circle of Excellence also.

@gclsports I missed your post before mine. Congrats on LPH! What are your sons thoughts on his schools now?

@BreakfastClub1 Thank you, and congrats on COE! LHP is a game changer for my son. UC wasn’t high on his list before, mainly because its so close to home and my son thought he wanted to go away. But LHP makes UC more affordable than any other option he currently has, and with the co-op program and cohort structure, LHP is very attractive. UC is now it’s under serious consideration, though he is still weighing his options.

@gclsports I read somewhere that approx. 80% of LHP are from the local area near U of Cincinnati. Just curious if you are from that area?

@breakfastclub1 Yes, we are. And I think that stat is probably true. I googled “lindner honors plus” last week and came up with a website where you can see headshots of each student in LHP for the last five years and the names of their high schools. The overwhelming majority are from local schools.

My son also got an acceptance to CofE. He’s still considering UC, but I think Miami is still higher on his list for now. We still have to visit Dayton and Ohio State.

My S did the accepted student day at OSU and got into a preferred Scholars program in a newer dorm. He was at Make It Miami yesterday. The was the 2nd Make It Miami day that my husband attended with our children and he said they do a great job. Initially, my S only wanted to apply to Miami after his visit(s) in the past. We thought that was crazy to apply to just one and made him apply to multiple. After yesterday’s visit, he said if the next two college visits don’t “blow him away”, he is going to Miami. He keeps comparing everything to Miami. I feel like we are narrowing this down.

@breakfastclub1 we were at Make it Miami yesterday too. They really do, do a nice job. What a relief to be narrowing the options.

My son told us last summer that if he made COE and not KBS or LHP, that he had no interest in UC. He has done lots of volunteering and social justice that was on his resume, because that is important to him as a human being, but he really wanted his education to be focused on his business skills. It seems COE focuses on blending the social aspects with business; it doesn’t seem to fit his career plans. A great group if planning to enter into social entrepreneurship though. My son just has a passion for finance and possibly investment banking so it just isn’t a match.
I think he has made the commitment to IU Kelley. So far, it is the best match for his career desires and college experience.
Good luck to everyone!

@CWAE182025 my son is going to visit Kelley in a week. None of us have visited and I look forward to hearing his thoughts.
