Linguistics and Study Abroad?

I am a prospective student for the Fall 2009 term and I'm trying to find as much information as possible about the linguistics program and study abroad. I am thinking about majoring in Linguistics as it is one of the majors I could receive in-state tuition for, according to the Western Exchange Program.

Currently I am deciding between UO and another school, so any information that current students could provide would be really helpful.

Thanks!

i am a freshman at the UO, majoring in linguistics, and i absolutely love it. professors are very kind and helpful, and it's nice to have a smaller community for my major. there are very close ties with the psychology department, but i heard the other day that there are some issues between the psycholinguistics department and the other linguistics departments, so i don't know about that.

i haven't studied abroad yet (obviously, i just got here), but there are a lot of options, and it seems very doable. also, you have to take two years of one language and one year of another for the linguistics major... it's good to know if you are an out-of-state student that there are some languages here that are considered in a separate "world languages academy" even though they are still at the UO and nothing seems to be different... but they are sometimes a bit cheaper to take for out-of-state students. languages in this category include portuguese, arabic, norwegian, sahaptin, and quite a few others.
