UCLA transfer chances?

Hii,

What are my chances getting into UCLA as a Linguistics Psychology Major vs. Psychology?
I have all the requirements done for Psychology... but I don't know about specifics of Linguistics psychology... :/

Overall GPA 3.4

I worked through out college, Ive done a lot of community service of going down to Mexico to build houses/YMCA camp consular. Also, I'm on the speech and debate team.

My best friend is currently attending her first quarter as a Bio Major, and she applied with a 3.3!

Any chances for me??

Thanks!!!

Do you go to a California Community College? What is your UC GPA? Do you have IGETC completed/will have it completed? How are your grades this semester?

The average GPA admitted for psychology last year for transfer students was 3.7, so if you have a solid-great semester this fall, that should surely help. Also, your volunteerism and community involvement is great. Overall, boost the GPA this semester, write a good personal statement, and you’ll be fairly competitive.

Also, the average GPA for Linguistics and Psychology for transfer students was a 3.39, so with a 3.4 you are already above that. << Pending the 3.4 is your UC GPA. Your best shot is definitely Linguistics and Psychology. However, you do have a shot at the Psychology Department as well.

What is Psychology and Linguistics? I will have a 3.57 UC GPA at the end of the semester and am, from what people have been telling me, pretty borderline for the UCLA Psychology Dept.

As my backup major I currently have Philosophy, but have recently been thinking about Psychology and Linguistics because it will at least have some emphasis on psychology from what I understand, and I know I have a good shot of getting in to the Psych. and Linguistics major.

So basically what is Psychology and Linguistics, and is it drastically different from Psychology majors?

From this website:

[Linguistics and Psychology B.A.](<a href=“Study Area - New Student & Transition Programs”>Study Area - New Student & Transition Programs)

"Linguistics and Psychology B.A.

About the Major
The major combines the basic courses of the general linguistics program with that of psychology. Students are able to study and explain human and animal behavior, both normal and abnormal, as well as enrich their knowledge about the nature, grammar, and history of human language. "

Thank you ^^ that helps alot. Great site, I had never seen it before. Anyways, I’m still undecided about whether to target Philosophy or Linguistics & Psychology as my backup major. My passion is in Psychology, but I do really enjoy Philosophy as well. I lack any and all interest in foreign languages, but I was an English major prior to switching to Psychology.

Tough decision, but I figure this is my backup major I am deliberating about either way, so it is unlikely to affect me in the long run. Or at least not something I should be stressing over.
