Lipa

My son was just accepted at LIPA! Other than it is in Liverpool, what can anyone tell us about this school?

Congrats! I had a friend who was very high on LIPA last year but didn’t get in. She was a pretty unique and amazing talent, so she either choked on her audition or they must be pretty darn selective. They don’t have an MT major per se but still do musicals. As I remember, the main thing she liked about them was that they emphasize survival skills in the business which, in their minds, entail being a very versatile, well-rounded performer with lots of options. Thus, they encourage a student to be more than “just an actor.” For instance, she was not only a “triple threat,” but was also an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist, and bass player; a passable saxophone player and flautist; and in the process of learning percussion. She also wrote her own pop/rock songs and was very interested in learning the ins and outs of recording studio production. It seems to me that is an awful lot of directions to go in three years, but she felt like LIPA was the only place all that would be nurtured. Also, one of the school’s founders and a guiding hand in their philosophy is Paul McCartney and I think the school is actually located in the refurbished building in which he attended grammar school as a kid.

thanks for the great info- I am forwarding on to my son- He loves the idea of being in England, but I of course want there to be alittle more 'college' involved-and it would be strictly acting, etc trainingi wouls say he is pursuing more acting than MT
I am assuming you are a freshman somewhere-- Whats your story?

Yeah. I'm a freshman. I auditioned for some acting conservatories and am waiting for my final results like everybody else. I got some good acceptances last year, but had an unfortunate incident in my personal life early on at my first school that snowballed on me to the point that it was going to affect the rest of my time there, so I transferred to a college near my home to finish off my GEs this semester and do a "take two."

wow- so sorry about your trouble
Funny how we have our lives plannned out and it often takes a different turn-
it sounds so trite, but often those 'roads less traveled by' make all the difference!!!!( Robert Frost reference!)

My son also just got excepted to LIPA. Were you at the Chicago auditions? Maybe we met. We are trying to find out about the school also. My son got excepted into the 3 year undergraduate program. He is a high school senior. I know LIPA was also auditioning for graduate programs. The school sounds good but it's hard to know.

I was not in Chicago, but my son auditioned on Wed afternoon for the undergrad program( as a walkin)- He is a HS senior at NCSA right now- The only problem with LIPA so far is no financial aid!

My son also auditioned on Wednesday. They must have gone to the afternoon workshop together. Carl goes to a performing arts high school in Florida.

We called LIPA on Friday and asked them about financial aid. They said if we turn in our FASA report to them, they can hook us up with some loans.
Our worry is what kind of connections they have in the USA when the kids graduate. Will he get work when he get out?

What other school is your son waiting to hear from?

Anybody know anyone from the US that has graduated from LIPA and is now back in the States. Love to know how they are doing. Do directors here take LIPA (or for that matter, any overseas program) seriously? The training sounds wonderful, but lets face it, everyone goes to college so they can have a better shot at getting work when they get out.
I've been excepted, but not sure what to do. Waiting to hear from 4 more schools.

Is anyone from the US going to LIPA next year (2009-10)?
