I am a senior thinking about applying to the List College/Columbia program next year. I was wondering if you are allowed to do a double major at Columbia as I wanted to study history and economics. I looked at the List College website and it looked like Columbia charged tuition per credit hour rather than just a flat rate per semester. Can anyone answer this question, I know I am going to have a lot of work to do anyway but would like to know that I have the financial freedom to get a double major if i wanted one.

a) if you are a student in the list/gs program then you are essentially doing two degrees at once. this means that you will have a few more requirements than the average student at either (more time must be spent on campus usually), but courses you take at columbia and at list will count for your degree at the other.

b) because gs is a pay as you go school (some students require all 124 credits to graduate, some less, for the joint degree program you only need 64 credits paid to columbia to graduate). in those 64 credits you must do a major and the core requirements. this usually takes up all 64 credits. most students because of the rigor choose not to add on a second major because that would ultimately usually take you over the 64 credits necessary to graduate - you’d be spending more money than you need to. but it is not prohibited.
