Listing Fight Club as Favorite Movie

The masses are now empowered.

Fight Club should be fine, as it did rather well in the box office and I know is in the DVD collection of a state university’s library.
Just don’t put Spider Babe or anything along those lines.

what about stupid crude humor movies like Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle???

I would say don’t overdo them.

And look:

Look at me, I can even quote a particular person.

Fight Club is actually a great movie to put down. It is well respected among academics not as a violent, action movie but as a deeply philosphic movie.

It’s certainly my s’s fav movie and he’s a film junky. The movie is interesting at many levels.

They might be looking for interesting/cultured kids, but do not under any circumstances list a movie you haven’t seen or don’t like, as it will almost certainly come up in an interview.

is this right?

uttaresh, The Departed is my second favorite movie. Why would that be especially risque? I thought it had a brilliant, original plot and awesome acting.

I’d say put down your favorite movie. That’s what they’re asking for, that’s what you should give them. Why does it seem as if many people think it’s a sin to just be honest in the college application process? I think if you give them the best and most accurate picture of yourself, they’ll be better able to decide whether you’re a fit for their school. And, even if you don’t get in, isn’t that better for you? They would have decided that Stanford isn’t the right place for you, and you’d probably be happier elsewhere.

Put down your favorite movie. College admissions officers are people too. They watch and like the same movies that we all do. If anything, pick something that is original, edgy, and will get their attention.

I think it would be fine. I would be honest if that was a question on any of the apps I’m doing!

and I would probably include American Psycho which is definitely worse than Fight Club..which is another one of my favorite movies. What does this say about me? lol

There’s nothing wrong with The Departed as well, even Psycho, while it may be a stretch, should be okay…as long as it isn’t something that’s 100% obvious in trying to offend the college admissions people on purpose.

Dooooo it ;)

I think Fight Club should be fine. I put “A Clockwork Orange” for mine  and it’s a lot more violent and has more “disturbing” imagery.

I would think that they would like that more since your obviously being honest.

funny, funny…

My son did this very thing…he was chosen as a QB Finalist and then matched to Pomona.

Maybe you should list Finding Nemo just to be safe.

ya, Fight Club should be fine, many hail it as a modern classic.

Now, MY Top 3, on the other hand (Pulp Fiction, Sin City, A Bronx Tale) might startle an adcom… :P

I quoted Taxi Driver in my Princeton App
