Do Living Learning Communities require a lot of time? Will applying to a Living Learning Community increase the chances of living in a certain dorm (Cobb for Connected Learning or McIver for WELL)?

Also, what is the best dorm on North Campus (nicer, bigger rooms)?

No, they do not require a lot of time. At least, from what I know. I don’t think they really require any more time than non-LLC. It seems to be more just a group of people with shared interests.

Each LLC has a designated dorm or dorms, AFAIK. I know the Substance-Free LLC has all, or part, of Joyner hall and maybe some others. This information should be on the UNC housing website.

Depends, I guess. I’m not a student in one, or a student at all, so I can’t say for sure. Perhaps if your LLC participates in activities in the community or organizes events and such, maybe, then yeah. But I’m not sure how many do that. Seems more of a friend-making and studying thing over anything else.

I am going to be in the WELL program in the fall and I’ve been garenteed a room in McIver (one of the reasons I chose the program). WELL does expect a bit more than some of the other communities, I have to take a woman studies class either in the fall or spring or summer semsester and also there are retreats and seminars that members are expected to attend.

However I know I will enjoy those classes/seminars/retreats so its no big deal.

I guess that’s the female counterpart to “Men@Carolina”.

I think I want to stay with the Substance-Free LLC if I do live in one. I don’t drink or smoke and wouldn’t stay with a roommate who did either (maybe – definitely no smokers).

WELL was around before MAC. As far as the work goes, it is a little more than just living in a regular dorm. You’ll have meetings every week I think, and activities beyond that vary.
