To live in Collins, what do i have to do? do you have to be invited?
also, as a possible incoming freshman, what is the ideal neighborhood to live in.
i am an OOS female who wants to balance school work and play.
i am not a huge partier, but i do like to party on weekends.
please help!
thanks!

Collins is a Living-Learning Center so, as far as I know, you apply to be a part of that learning center on your housing application. If it’s like any of the others I’ve heard about you’re required to take a 1 credit course at some point during your stay at Collins and that’s about it.

However, in regards to your partying and things like that, I should warn you that Collins is pretty quiet. It has the reputation of being the “hippy” kids who eat tofu and seaweed. However, those are just silly stereoptypes. I would keep it in mind however if having an active dorm floor or a close knit group of friends is important because I’m not sure Collins will offer that. There’s many other ways to get that of course but, as a freshman, your best friends are usually the ones who live on your floor. So, keep that in mind :)

thanks(: where do you think is the best neighborhood for a freshman to live?

Northwest is definitely the big party dorms and can get out of control on weekends, but during the week is usually pretty tame. I didn’t even party coming into college and I lived in NW (McNutt) just because that’s where the most business majors were and because people say it has the most sociable people, but you’re going to find that in every dorm. I did party a decent amount last year, but it never really got in the way and I still had a 3.7. I would definitely recommend Northwest.

I would think for the most part if you want to party at all, Collins and Southeast are probably not the best options

Do a search on College Confidential about Collins and Northwest. There were some “interesting threads” about the Northwest. Follow the threads through the year and find out what happened to a couple of the posters.

Inform yourself. I’m not making any judgement one way or the other.

In the northwest is there one dorm that most freshman stay at?

No, all of the Northwest dorms are mostly freshman.
