LLRISE VS Young Scholars Program at UMD (University of Maryland)

I need to decide on a summer program for this summer. I am currently a junior living in PA and I am trying to decide between two residential programs. LLRISE is 2 weeks and is at the lincoln lab in MIT. The programs focuses on building a radar. I havent heard anything about this program but it's free and at MIT(good combination). The other program is a 3 week residential program in UMD where I would be taking a college credit course on engineering design.
Personally I am leaning towards UMD since its seems a but more social (which I want) but my parents really want the LLRISE program because of the prestigious name of MIT. Though I do want to have a good time, I also want to have a more impressive resume and I feel like LLRISE would fulfil that goal better than young scholars at UMD.

Am I wrong? What should I choose? Does either one make much of a difference on my chances of acceptance into a top tier school? What do you think? Any advice/opinions a welcome

LLRISE doesn’t seem “not fun.” You’re staying on campus with a group of other students, it seems, so you can still socialize. Young Scholars seems like a more generalized engineering opportunity while LLRISE is pretty specific. I don’t think it makes much of a difference on your chances of acceptance, it depends which you will value more and gain more from. Though I admit I would be inclined to choose LLRISE because of MIT’s prestige.

Thanks for posting about LLRISE earlier, I wish I could apply but I’m not a citizen. >.> Darn. Good luck, whichever you choose. :)
