No decision yet on honors- but the 30k presidential scholarship guarantees entry into honors.
got it- thanks
This Presidential scholarship has a lot of perks. The money is great but the perks really make the experience way more appealing.
Only 68 kids or so per grade in the honors program out of a class of 1800. So, it’s competitive to get in.
My D received the Presidential $30k merit award. Looks great to me, but I’m not sure it’s enough compared to some of the others.
D just got the email saying kids can’t come to campus and they have these live virtual tours to sign up for.
Is anyone still considering LMU if they haven’t visited yet? This is a bummer. I cannot see her choosing a school sight unseen. She can see the other EA school she’s been accepted to and is interested in. They have tours and an info session for admitted students. All of the other schools on her list at least allow self tours and say they might have some admitted student programming in April.
Received the same e-mail- my daughter will still consider it even if we don’t get to visit. Committing to a school without the benefit of a visit is probably an unfortunate reality in 2021.
What would happen if you just showed up and walked the campus? Is it blocked off or anything?
LMU’s gate is closed and there is a guard.
Yes. Someone earlier here (somewhere on CC - I think on the 2021 parent page) that they went to LMU gates and were told they cannot come in. We’re given a map and told they could walk around the perimeter which included a trail on the bluff. They couldn’t see the campus.
We are not going anywhere until we receive both of the vaccine shots, which will not happen in time even if the campuses are open. So DD prepares to choose school without visiting.
Mom of LMU senior here! It’s kind of hard to imagine, but the campus and geography is such that you really would not be able to see it from the outside, and also you can’t sneak in. I’ve walked all around there. At the most you could park in the neighborhood adjoining the back gate and get a view from the street, but that would just be a glimpse. It’s very unfortunate, I really feel for all of you considering LMU this year. The campus is so beautiful. One side overlooks the bluff and you can see much of LA. To your left, and from some of the sophomore dorms, you can get a glimpse of the ocean. Palm trees, beautiful chapel, wide open lawns. Varied architecture from the stunning library with incredible views, to the gigantic “U Hall” which used to be a huge Howard Hughes corporate building, to the modern admissions/administrative building, to the dorms that kind of remind me of Coronado Springs at Disney World. Clean, more modern looking than say USC. And there are some newer dorms now. It also looks as if they’ve added several dining choices since my daughter’s on campus days, which was needed. Good luck to all. LMU has not been very quick or forthcoming with future plans since covid hit. We love LMU, but I would say that the chance for on campus visits before decision date (is it April 1?) seems slim at this point. It seems more truly closed than many other schools. EDIT: I forgot the most important part of campus: The students. Happy, friendly students, I am always struck by this. Walking through campus with my daughter she would usually see at least a couple of friends/acquaintances, but not know every single person. And the faculty…if you pass by a professor, you’ll get a hello and a short chat. The faculty seem very passionate and engaged.
Did anyone else get an e-mail, thanking them for their deposit and accepting their offer at LMU?!? We haven’t accepted their offer nor have we paid a deposit. But hey if the college fairy wants to pay that deposit and tuition… go lions! lol
Yes. Everyone got it. A mistake!!
Thanks for confirming… I was secretly hoping I had some anonymous benefactor
We got the same note. Thanks everyone for confirming it was a mistake. Is LMU going to send out a correction notice? Thanks!
FYI, LMU announced that 2021 graduation will be virtual. And an in person event at some future unspecified time for both 2020 and 2021 grads. Not sure what this bodes for visits this spring, although I’m sure they need a lot more lead time to plan a graduation than they do to open up visits again. Fingers crossed for you all!
Family Week is next week, are accepted students invited? LMU Family Weekend - Loyola Marymount University There is a link at the bottom for 21% off LMU swag if any of you are decided and ready to buy some stuff! And a sample orientation class, Greek life open house, and more.
They just did
Can you give an idea of your daughter’s stats? Just curious. My son was offered significantly more $ a honors college from Fordham. We still haven’t heard about honors college from LMU and may not until April? That seems very late if decision is due 5/1?
Hi all! I’m not sure if accepted students could view the LMU Town Hall as a part of Family Week this week, but there were some updates. Regarding campus access, it truly sounds like the bottom line is LMU is doing whatever the county allows. Right now the county allows athletics but not dance, for example. The county has strict gathering limits which informed the decision to make commencement virtual. A parent asked if seniors could come on to campus to take grad pics in their gowns, and the answer was yes…if the county allows it. So I am sure it is the same answer for tours. Levels are dropping and there seems to be some optimism that country restrictions will change ‘soon.’ But not optimism that the county would get to the level that would allow for commencement and the planning time required.
There was also information on housing for next year, and who will have priority for what, that I didn’t absorb because I have a senior. The entire Town Hall is at 2021 LMU Family Week: Provost's Town Hall - YouTube
thanks for the update!
