Does anyone know if there is more than one board to review applications and send out LOAs? If so how many, and how often do they meet? I don’t think I was selected for the first one.

Might be wrong, but the majority of LOA's have already gone out. There are not a lot of LOA's, I think that someone said ly it is about 100-150 (remember they have @9K+ pre-apps, thus it is very very few). Then it is only about 300 that will receive appts before Mar. The bulk (1300 more) will get theirs in Mar. So just sit back.

The earliest AFA LOA's I recall seeing were October. I know of several 2011's that got LOA's the 2nd/3rd week of October. My understanding is the board meets once a week. If your file is complete, it goes to the board. If something changes in your file, it may go to the board again (hence the advice people often give to update your file as things change - a way to get it in front of the board again). If your file is complete and you have not gotten an LOA and a few weeks/a month have passed, update your file (assuming you have things you can add). This may get your file before the board(s) again.

I have heard that there are two boards. Either board can give a "yes" but to get a "no" both boards have to give the "no". Updated info can get your file sent to the board again. Of course, the added info needs to be substantive enough to cause your file to gain merit (adding that you joined a generic non-academic social club and hold no office may not be sufficient to merit a second go around, though adding updated SAT scores, or an award you received in school or something like that may).

Here's what I'm guessing. They might have met, but I doubt anyone has heard yet. Because on CC, the service academy fourms, and the 2013 hopefuls facebook group that a friend is in, I seen no one/heard anything about getting a LOA. Now, is it possible that the 150-200 people that are going to get them aren't on any of those? Sure. But, I just feel when someone gets a LOA, we're all gonna hear about it somewhere. Thoughts?

It's still a little early...and never forget how much you wanted this.

first ones go out in october.

I would anticipate notice of an LOA maybe on the web by this Fri or by Monday the 20th....my s got his last year on Oct. 21 (in the mail)

I can remember how intense the anticpiation is waiting for word of an appointment. I too would check the mail daily (or twice daily, or three times daily . . .) Anywho, that being said don't put too much stock in LOA's. True, you get to find out if you got accepted earlier, but other than thay they don't do much else for you. Foucus more on continuing to get good grades, staying out of trouble etc.

i got my LOA in december.

Wow, that's pretty late. I guess I'll be checking the mail a lot. Oh well, it's always exciting to jog down there. Of course, the walk up isn't fun.
I'm enjoying it though.

1st wave of LOA's for Class of 2013 are out and in the hands of some recipients. Dated Oct 6th.

Hahaha, well that blows my theory up.

hurry up and get here :D

So you 2012ers will have people to call you "Sir" or "Ma'am?"

If the LOA was dated Oct 6th, that means the boards are meeting every Monday now. So don't chase the mailman down the block until Friday/Saturday.

Nah,I don't want to be called ma'am, and I DEFINITELY don't want to be called sir.
