I got my LOA today. :) The day after my 18th birthday. My appointment is pending some DODMERB thing. I think it's about my broken bones and a vision waiver. Wow. It hasn't really sunk in yet. But I'm really excited none the less. Hahaha I don't even know what to say other than that. So yea. That's all.

Congratulations! Way to go!! Get thru the DoDMERB thing!!! Pack your seabag!!!! No more broken bones!!!!! :)

Truly, it does leave one nearly speechless, doesn't it.

GlitterHairDye, that is COMPLETELY AWESOME! We've been waiting a loooong time to see you get this. Go do big things! & GOOOOOOOOO NAVY!

So the only thing that I'm lacking in my entire packet is a vision waiver. Since I recieved my LOA so early do I get priority for a vision waiver or what? Does anyone know about this?

In my son's case he was disqualified by DODMERB and needed a Waiver, then a month or so later received a LOA. When he called his admission's counselor and asked her if that meant his waiver was guaranteed she told him to relax he had nothing to worry about. She said the LOA was to give him assurance that he was in once he got his waiver. He pressed her and said so the waiver is guaranteed and she said at this point yes but it could take 4-6 more weeks. It took 6 weeks for the waiver to come after his LOA. Call your admission's counselor and see if the counselor can give you some info with respect to the waiver. Thank god my son's couselor leveled with my son or I don't know if he or the rest of the family could have survived waiting 6 more weeks and not knowing for sure that the waiver was coming. Hang in there and I think it is an excellent sign you have the LOA. Check the DODMERB website daily because the waiver was posted on the website about 10 days before the letter came in the mail.

HOORAH FOR GLITTERHAIRDYE! :) Congrats to My Baby Girl! You are my Shining Star and HAPPY 18th Birthday! Love, MOM .. and GO NAVY!

And congrats to MOM2,2! Nuts usually don't fall too far. Quite a birthday present, 4 sure.

Welcome aboard GLITTERHAIRDYE!!!

THANKS ALL! This has been quite the process for Glitterhairdye and a dream come true that started when she was 11 during a visit to West Point and she asked the man in the gift shop if the Navy had a school like West Point and she proceeded to tell him that would be where she was going. I would love to hear about others recieving Appointments and LOAs for 2011 (especially from Georgia) and I am assuming they are just starting to send them?

Glitterhairdye: congrats! I can think of no better present for your 18th b'day! ENJOY!

Soooo I got this letter a few days ago and I called DoDMERB today about it and it was my eye waiver!!!!!!!!!!! But the guy said something about how they're not doing the percentages anymore (the one's where only a third can get waivers) but I didnt' really understand.
I'm supposing this means that my appointment should be in the mail, at least that's what my BGO said. That means it's official. I'm going to call the Academy tomorrow and see if they've recieved this info from DoDMERB and if my appointment is truely in the mail. Oh wow. This whole process is over.
Now to prepare for Plebe Summer. :)

So exciting! Go Navy!

Very exciting! Congrats!

The Academy may not tell her anything as they give the MOC a few days to "break" the news before the Appointment is mailed.

Way to go GlitterHairDye! I am so excited and happy for you!

Congratulations. Job well done.

what does the dodmerb website say about the status of something if it's been waived?

The DodMerb site says:

Current Medical Status: Medical waiver granted

D257.70 - Unaided distant visual acuity worse than 20/40
D259.10 - Waiver Approved - USNA

thank you!!
