Location v. School Rankings

Ive been at this whole law school process foe awhile now and I was wondering what people thought is more important when choosing a law school. I have been admitted to many schools but I ultimately want to practice in Miami where I live. Some people tell me that UM will be my best bet but I have also been admitted to Emory which is siginifcantly higher in the rankings. Ive read not to rely to heavily on the rankings but from a top 60 to a top 25 seems like a huge gap to me. Any input will be appreciated

Sometimes graduating from the best law school in a city is better if you want to practice there because, for one thing, there could be a well-connected alumni group. In terms of UM, I know that in general under Donna Shalala the university has been improving in many areas but I don't know specifically about the law school.

If you want to practice in Miami then if possible you should do two things: 1) check the websites of some of the major law firms in Miami and see what law schools their partners and some recent associates attended; 2) try to contact a few attorneys, especially some who graduated from UM law school and see how law firms, especially the hiring partners or recruting directors, view UM in terms of the quality of their graduates. Also ask about Emory. That will give you a better idea than most any you will see on this board.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.
