I was reading in the local paper that someone graduated from Auburn with a degree in Logistics. I noticed that he was in the service now. What are Logistics as a college major? I hadn't heard of that before.

It sounds kind of like a major in Strategiry ;)...

Actually, this should be a hot, in demand field. Potential employers would be any business that engages in international trade; federal government agencies, also freight forwarders, commercial container shipping lines, the entire industry that supports cargo and air shipping, etc.

I'm not surprised to see a degree in logistics. There are several master's programs in procurement and/or acquisition management.

dke,

From your post, I assume you live in the south. If you are interested in logistics (aka supply chain management) in your region consider the University of Tennessee or Georgia Tech as 2 of the top 10 schools in that discipline.

Right now it is a hot discipline in Business Schools as more and more goods are shipped through worldwide supply chains.

Add Arizona State as a school offering a top notch program in this field. Check the Supply Management Program.

thanks, GoalieDad.....I'm actually a parent who just saw the major in the paper and being from a liberal arts background wasn't familiar with it. So it mainly pertains to shipping logisitics sounds like.
