London Schools

It’s 150K for all 3 years, not one!!

@amyevelynn18 Ohhhhh that makes a LOT more sense. 150K over three years, I’m good with that. (well, not GOOD, but yeah, expected). And yes, Rodney specifically asked my daughter during her audition “do you have a way to pay for school?” Really wanted to make sure the money was clear. Apparently that’s a British thing, which is soooo not how they do it here  But hey, 150K for three years beats, say, $280K for NYU for 4 years…

Yes, it’s about 50K per year: 25K tuition and 25K living expenses. It’s a 3 year BA. We were prepared to pay about 50K per year for college. Since London schools are 3 year BA we are happy to be able to earmark some money for Ds first year in New York auditioning.

Awesome – thanks @ThespDad17 for the clarification. Question, since it actually came up tonight in a separate discussion – do you know if 529s can be used for LAMDA/RADA? Didn’t see them on the approved list, but I know that the “degree” conferred is from other institutions, yes?

I know Central takes FASA.

One thing to consider with the UK schools is that they are typically on a different timeline for the school year which can make it difficult/impossible for students to book summer work in the U.S.

LAMDA’s BA is conferred by the University of Kent. I believe RADA’s is conferred by King’s College. The LAMDA website has an FAQ and other info about US financial aid. The LAMDA school year runs from late September through late July with 3 weeks off at Christmas and a 5 week spring break.

Those of you who are interested in UK schools might like to do a search for posts by @connections . She has much to offer about the experience her son had there and has been very generous with her help here on CC.

As someone whose D has lived and worked in London for several years now, I can suggest that any estimate these schools give you will be low. Plan to spend more!

@alwaysamom …Did your D attend school in London? If so, how was she able to stay and work after? Mine is in her first year there and I am curious if anyone has been able to stay after graduation.

@bubbachicco, no, my D is a Tisch grad who went to London to work a year after graduating and working in Chicago for a year. She was able to go there to work with an ancestry visa. UK grads are unlikely to be able to stay to work there without something similar. It has become increasingly difficult in the years since she moved there.

ThespDad 17 Do you remember how long before your D hear back from her Rada audition last year?

Sorry for the delay @Londream2. My D did her audition for RADA last year on March 4. She had an email reply from RADA dated March 30.

ThespDad17 Thanks a few of us auditioned on or around March 12th there were no same day callbacks and are still waiting for that email !
