My D just received a callback for RADA in London. It's not until May 16th. After the date she has to commit to a couple of other programs.. Advice please?

If you think that RADA is a viable choice, send her to the callback. But she should also commit to her second-choice program. If she is accepted to RADA and decides to attend, you will forfeit your deposit to the other program.

That’s fantastic, @bardsmom.

Congrats @bardsmom!! And @glassharmonica is correct. That’s what you have to do.
Does your D need a chaperone to London?? I’m available. Haha

Wonderful news, bardsmom! And very good advise from glassharmonica. I would say send your D to the audition in any case, but that depends on finances and other considerations of course.

My D received a RADA callback as well. She spread out her applications among American BA and BFA theatre programs, liberal arts schools with excellent theatre majors, and RADA as a completely different route. Once all her acceptances and rejections are in, she is going to decide what she really wants to do. She is very likely going to the callback, but will certainly accept a US school in the beforehand. She did a summer program there in 2013 and loved it.

bardsmom and westcstmom - fantastic news! Congrats to your daughters!!

Congrats to your D westcstmom! From what I read about 5000 audition and 100-150 get invited to the workshops. of which they have about 4. So I think our girls did pretty well! My D didn’t do their summer program but took her RADA Shakespeare exams when we were there last summer. It was great prep for her college auditions.

My son got the callback as well! :-)

Awesome @connections!!

Thank you for the kind words of support. This is such a slog!!! I just wish everyone going through this gets good choices.

My S has had no connection with RADA, and knows it byits reputation and what he has read about it and heard from others. Any words of wisdom?

RADA is a great school in the UK. The reputation of places like RADA and LAMDA and the training is supposed to be second to none. My D who,is now at LAMDA had callbacks last year at Guildhall and LAMDA (she didn’t apply to RADA) and went. It was a terrific experience and after going there she knew it was the place for her. She did have to commit in the US and we lost the deposit as well as housing deposit, and she kept on a couple of waitlists. When she got her acceptances, she she informed the schools that she was no longer interested, and now she couldn’t be happier. Congratulations on the callbacks and enjoy London!

Actingmom18. Question I know some Lamda rejections have gone out via email, are the callbacks the same or by mail?

I believe it was email. Acceptances are calls. I think they called my daughter back because they knew she was coming to london for the guildhall callback. They talked about it at the initial audition. It seems they don’t usually do callbacks for those from the US and hers at LAMDA seemed really like a formality as opposed to a real callback.

Thank you for the info Actingmom18 .

I can’t seem to find RADA on the list of schools eligible for US federal funding. I know you can get US student loans for LAMDA and Guildhall. Does anyone know if you can for RADA as well?

I don’t know. I couldn’t find it either. We weren’t able to fill out the FAFSA for RADA. Let me know if you find an answer!
