long distance

i live in PA and chicago's about a 10 hr drive. is it wise to venture that far? do u guys get homesick? i consider myself independent and adventuresome, and i love the city & school. but its still a big adjustment..any thoughts?

You're limiting yourself significantly if you'd only like to go to a university close to home. Branch out, explore life, and definitely explore.

While I'm perhaps not the best person to answer this question, as I ended up going to Chicago even though I'm originally from the area (living in Wisconsin now though), my experience with my friends is that homesickness is not usually an issue. Frankly, you will be quite busy with work/social activities and shouldn't really feel a large amount of homesickness.

Also, thanksgiving and winter break come up rather quickly in the schedule, and it's not like the University chains you to campus anyway. I've known people to take a day or two off of class and fly/drive home for a short weekend if they just need a break. While I wouldn't reccomend doing this during finals, it's certainly something that does happen.
