I am in the market for an affordable longboard for traveling campus. Also my first time learning how to ride as well. And I won't be doing any tricks or going down a hill with it. Does anyone know where exactly to buy these boards?

This just screams freshman. You don’t need to hippy up with trendy things like that. Get a bike or a decent pair of shoes.

@prunkss: I don’t want a longboard because “it look cool”. I simply want a faster mode of transportation that can maneuver around people easily. I don’t want to ride a bike at college I prefer something more portable.

Learn before you go on campus. There’s nothing that makes you day more entertaining than seeing longboarders flip into the grass.

Personally, I couldn’t see a long board being a very practical mode of transportation on a college campus. For one, a bike can get locked up outside. You can’t really do that with a long board. What do you do? Bring it in to every class with you? A lot of people do seem to like them…I just don’t see it being very practical. I’ll take a bike any day. Much faster, easier to maneuver, easy to lock up. But, that’s my opinion.

My dear Nyquil, what make u think I will fall. I’m word clumsy not action clumsy ;)

Seriously, someone else here is buying a longboard and shoulc know where to get them…

Well, people around my town just go to the local surf shops. I’m not much of help. :S

Why not just get a regular skateboard? They’re much more portable than a longboard and less cumbersome to put away when class is in session.

One of my friends at UCLA has an adult penny board which is probably the best option if you want a skateboard that you can carry around with you wherever.

I’m going to be waiting for the day Descuff ends up covered in scrapes and scuffs and finally realizes that walking just might be the best option…

Oh, please Instagram it when you do. I want to see this.

I second this statement.

I feel like if you don’t know where to buy a longboard, you definitely do NOT need to be attempting to ride around campus during your first semester on one…particularly when you haven’t even learned to ride them.

Save yourself the trouble (and possible embarrassment depending on how fast you learn new skills) and just walk to class. This is what most people do. The time you “save” isn’t really useful unless you have to traverse the entire campus in an extremely short amount of time…which doesn’t seem to be the case here.

I feel like this is the college equivalent of high school freshmen with those oversized wheely backpacks.

I’m didn’t make this topic to debate the usefulness of longboarding so please refrain from posting if you are going to be all negative about it.

You should be all retro (I guess it would be for your age) and get a Razor scooter instead.

Or be that one kid every college has that rides a unicycle everywhere.

@Orion I wasn’t planning to go riding in on the very first week of school. And I do know where to buy one but I don’t know if there are any cheaper alternative.

@Descuff

I didn’t even say first week, I said first semester. 15 weeks should be long enough to learn how to ride like a natural rather than a freshman who’s trying really hard but not being very successful ;)

Lol i see. Considering that I am practicing now on my skateboard I seriously doubt it will take that long, especially when I’m actually planning to ride it a week before arriving on campus. :P
