Intended Major: Business, Economics, PolySci, Really open to a lot of majors

Hoping you guys could give me some good safety and match schools! Maybe Low Reach as well! Please let me know if you need more information

Your financial ability?
Region?
Rural, suburban, urban?
Size?
LAC or Research U?
Campus Culture?

Thanks! I wasn’t really sure what to put.

Looking for somewhere on the east coast. Interested in places around DC
Medium Sized School (8-12 thousand)
Suburban or Urban (Just outside of city preferred)
Money isn’t an issue

To get a gauge for culture, I’ve applied to UMiami, WashU, and Boston College

Tufts
Georgetown

How close to DC? On the Metro? (U MD at College Park, George Mason U) Less than an hour away by car or MARC rail? (U MD Balt. County, Towson U, Goucher, Hood) Two hours by car? (Most of VA, MD, and DE, and parts of southern PA)

Tufts, Villanova, Holy Cross.

To get a more suggestions try using the college search tool here on CC -
[College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/index.htm)

Just specify your stats, and criteria and expand the number of results at the top…

I would think American U would be a safety (less than 8000 undergrads though), George Washington U a match. Both would allow you lots of possibilities for internships in business and poly sci.

UVA
Georgetown
GW
Tufts
Boston College
Northeastern University
Villanova
Virginia Tech if you’re into engineering or a hard science degree

For admissions, yes. But if you are interested in American, be sure they know it. They value applicants’ demonstrated interest highly, and they don’t like being thought of as the safety school for applicants to GW or Georgetown.

Another consideration: you may be a good candidate for significant merit aid at American. Even if “money isn’t an issue,” who doesn’t like a nice discount? (And what do you mean, “money isn’t an issue”? Money is always an issue–even when you can print your own!)

“For admissions, yes. But if you are interested in American, be sure they know it. They value applicants’ demonstrated interest highly, and they don’t like being thought of as the safety school for applicants to GW or Georgetown.”

But they are.

But they also have a history of rejecting applicants who make it patently obvious that they consider AU their back-up.

Not without reason, I think. My kid started out thinking of AU as a safety, and eventually chose it over several others, including GW.

On another note, I think some of the colleges named here (Tufts, Georgetown, BC, UVa if OOS) are pretty reachy for an applicant with GPA = 3.7/4.2 and ACT = 33. Not exactly out of reach, but definitely reachy.

My D with stats not much higher was offered American’s top scholarship and honors program without visiting. With about 40% acceptance rate, it should be a safety if enough time and effort is put into the application, and a visit/show of interest would be wise. She chose GWU over American, but gave it serious consideration. (She was also rejected by Tufts and G’town, accepted to BC)

Emory might be a match for you. Almost all of its non hard science programs are excellent, particularly poly sci, and business. It’s located in a suburb of the capitol city of Georgia, and in many ways the capitol of the Southeast, so getting an internship is relatively easy. Emory has about 7,500 undergrads, so it just about meets your size preferences. Plus, it’s probably the most “Northern” school in the South.

Other schools to consider:
-Tulane
-Fordham (in NYC but has a well defined campus)
-UPittsburg (in a city but with a well defined campus)
