Looking for advice/suggestions on which schools to apply to...

Hey everyone. I'm looking for suggestions on which schools to apply to. Safeties/Matches/Reaches? Currently, I'm interested in Deerfield, so maybe similar to that?

White, Female
Massachusetts
Currently a Freshman
Attend a smallish Catholic school
Would need FA or Loan or something.

I took the SSAT last year and scored 95th overall, (99 M, 90V, 85R) so hopefully I'd score around that again.

ECs (Still joining some, kinda hard with the adjustment and all, but yeah... Not completely sure if I'll stay in all of them, might be a bit too much.)
Robotics Club
Math Team
Model UN
Model Congress
Art Classes
Green Team
Science Club
Junior Classical League

Preferably good science, math, and fine arts programs, with a good amount of APs. Places with foreign exchange programs. Preferably in the Northeast.
Anyway, thanks! Sorry if I made any mistakes or anything, kinda new to this.

Well you might think of consedring Episcopal if you want to broaden out a bit. It is in Dc
a good all girls school is emma willard

Depending on how much distance matters to you, SPS in
NH and St. Andrew’s in Delaware both
might meet your requirements and have generous
financial aid programs. They are both great schools, although
St. Andrew’s might be slightly less competitive.

I tend to group Deerfield with SPS and Groton as smallish great schools. All of them are somewhat difficult to get in to but they seem to reflect what you are looking for. Other schools you might look at are Middlesex and Peddy. The best way to get in is to find a school you want to go to for the right reasons i.e., because what the school values is what you value. The best students at Groton and SPS both in the sciences and the humanities seem to have gravitated towards their classical honours programme so your odds even as an FA applicant might be quite good if you write the right kind of application. If I were you I would apply to SPS and Peddy. Groton and Middlesex, Deerfield and Episcopal or St. Andrews. This list is more or less consistent with what you express you are looking for, the probability of getting in and the probablility of getting money. Anyway, the surest way not to get in is not to apply. Good luck

St Grottlesex schools (st pauls, st marks, st george with Groton and Middlesex) fit your definition. If you apply to all five you will get a good range of reaches, matches, and safeties.

What is your current gpa and what types of classes are you taking this year? Do you have any long-term involvement or leadership role with any of your ec’s? Any athletics or arts (other than classes)?

The schools listed so far are good, but their fa is no longer as broad…only in the mid 30% range.

Today the schools which offer a truly comprehensive and generous FA program are the ones which are hard to get into. :/

St Andrew’s has about 45% on FA, it is need blind. Admit rate for 2010-11 year will be near 20%, due to a really massive over-enrollment this year. So it will be really competitive, I dare say more than SPS and Groton. The current students are at par with those at those schools, it is not in any way less competitive.

I know in a year of FA contraction, St-Marks actually increased their FA. While it may not be Deerfield or Groton in prestige, we are impressed with its math program and its overall academics. The Fine Arts program there is excellent and I believe they offer exchange trips. They also have a strong “classics” diploma if that interests you. The acceptance rate is higher than some that have been listed. It was at 30% last year. Good luck in finding your fit.

i never before heard of st andrews, but after checking out the website, it looks like a great school and i am probably going to apply there!
it seems perfect, a smaller school with an full boarding environment!
