Hello, I have a son who is a junior in high school and we are beginning the process of narrowing down colleges to visit. He wants a small college and will major in business. Furman looks like a wonderful school but I’m not sure what their business program is like. Does anyone have any experience with, or knowledge about, the business major at Furman? We will be touring schools in the spring, including Furman and Elon, so I’m trying to do some research beforehand. I have heard a lot of great things about Elon’s business school but nothing about Furman. Thanks for your input, it’s greatly appreciated.
I don’t know anything about Furman’s business curriculum; although I do know that overall Furman is well-regarded academically. As a liberal arts college/university, it does not have a separate school of business, which Elon does.
If you are in the area, you might also want to check out Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, which is right down the interstate from Furman. Wofford is another very good LAC that offers majors in accounting, finance, and business economics.
And, while not falling into your son’s size criterion, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC does have an Honors College, and a very highly regarded international business program in its school of business.
Although Furman does not have a named business school, it does have a strong business program. My daughter is a business major and has had a wonderful experience so far. She will be Bloomberg certified this spring which has been helpful as she applies for summer internships. Furman is also set to open a new Analytics Lab this spring.
Furman has a very strong reputation and alumni backing.
