Looking for internships

Hey everyone,

I see that many of you are very knowledgeable about various internships; I'm clearly not. I'm a senior in high school, and I was looking for internships in the summer before heading to college. Considering there's still time to apply, could anyone provide me with a list of internships that you know about? I live near Detroit, MI. I am a good student with a 3.98 GPA. I would really appreciate any help!

You can do this kind of research yourself…it’s called google. People aren’t really going to be able to help you with a “list of internships” if you don’t give us any idea of what kind of field you want to work in, either. It’s going to be hard to find an internship as a high schooler unless you have connections - start talking to your parents, your parents’ friends, your friend’s parents to see if you can find a connection that can lead to an internship. If you do a search of this site there’s tons of threads about high schoolers looking for internships, too.

Thank you for the most obvious statement to go search Google. Don’t you think that one would do that before seeking help on this site? Well, I would say that I like pretty much any field. I’m interested specifically in medical or engineering related internships. Really, I am looking to learn and gain further exposure, so anything is acceptable. It appears to me that there are opportunities out there for high school students that I don’t know about. It also looks like many high school students on here have applied widely for internships. Please, help is appreciated, not obvious comments that don’t help.

work at a nonprofit. idealist.org you’re not going to find anything related to your field of study until you’re in college unless you either a) have connections (which i doubt you do since you’re asking this question) or b) cold call like CRAZY. don’t underestimate the power of that.

I just think it’s a little silly for you to expect someone to list off internships. And I didn’t just suggest google - the key to getting an internship is going to be connections, like I said before. If you search back through this forum for topics on high school seniors/rising freshmen looking for internships you’re going to find some common themes - one of the only ways you’re going to be able to get an internship is through connections.

You need to think of why an engineering/medical type place would want to hire you - why you, over students already in college with relevant course experience and work experience. Generally you aren’t going to be able to offer that much compared to college students, so why hire you?
